Jofra Archer rattles Ryan Rickelton's stumps with a jaffa

Ryan Rickelton opened the innings with Tristan Stubbs in the absence of Temba Bavuma and the duo added only 11 runs together before Jofra Archer dismissed Stubbs for a duck.

Despite losing his opening partner, Rickelton batted brilliantly and he built a crucial 36-run stand with Rassie van der Dussen to ensure that the English team didn't get the momentum on their side.

He scored 27 runs off 25 balls, with 5 fours, before Jofra Archer dismantled his stumps in the 9th over of the innings to send him packing.

On the 2nd ball of the over, Archer bowled a 137.5 kmph jaffa to castle Rickelton. The ball pitched on a length and angled in from the outside off-stump to beat the batter's outside edge and disturb his middle and off-stump.

After picking the wicket, Jofra Archer jumped in delight and punched the air, before giving a deadly stare to the opposition batter with a wry smile.

How did South Africa perform in their previous ICC Champions Trophy 2025?

South Africa's previous ICC Champions Trophy 2025 match against Australia was washed out at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on February, 25.

Talking about their tournament opener, the Temba Bavuma-led South Africa opened their ICC Champions Trophy 2025 campaign with a dominant 107-run victory against Afghanistan at the National Stadium in Karachi.

Batting first on a good surface, Ryan Rickelton showcased sheer class and hit a superb ton, which was his maiden ODI century. He scored 103 off 106 balls and was well-supported by Temba Bavuma (58), Rassie van der Dussen (52), and Aiden Markram (52*), as South Africa posted a huge total of 315/6 on the board.

It was only the second time in the history of the ICC Champions Trophy that four players from a team had crossed the 50-run mark in an innings.

In the second innings, Afghanistan's chase never really took off as Kagiso Rabada (3/36), Lungi Ngidi (2/56), and Wiaan Mulder (2/36) picked up wickets at crucial moments.

The batting unit of Afghanistan crumbled under pressure, with Rahmat Shah being the only good performer as he smashed 90 off 92 balls. He fought a lone battle as wickets tumbled around him, with the next highest score being just 18.

Eventually, South Africa bundled out Afghanistan for 208 in 43.3 overs and ended their six-match ODI losing streak. Ryan Rickelton was awarded Player of the Match for his heroics against Afghanistan.
