England's premier fast bowler Jofra Archer delivered a crucial blow by removing in-form Team India batter Rishabh Pant early on Day 5 (Monday, July 14) of the third Test match. The right-arm fast bowler turned the match in England's favor with the early wicket at the historic Lord’s Cricket Ground in London.
The Men in Blue, led by Shubman Gill, resumed the final day at 58/4. Nightwatchman Akash Deep had been dismissed for 1 run in the final over of Day 4. Rishabh Pant came in to bat at No. 5 in India’s second innings. The visitors needed 193 runs in the final innings to secure a win and take a 2-1 lead.

The incident took place on the fifth ball of the 21st over in India's second innings. Jofra Archer bowled the delivery from wide of the crease that moved slightly away after pitching. Pant played a defensive shot without footwork, and the ball missed his outside edge to crash into the top of the off stump. Jofra Archer also gave a fiery send-off to Pant.
The left-handed batter had to depart for just 9 runs off 12 balls with the help of two boundaries, leaving India struggling at 71/5. It’s worth mentioning that Pant had danced down the track to smash a boundary earlier in the over. The England team, including Archer, erupted in joy after the early wicket.

Rishabh Pant Is a Dangerman Even With One Hand - Ex-England Spinner
Former England spinner Phil Tufnell lauded Archer for dismissing Rishabh Pant. Tufnell noted that Archer’s delivery angled in and straightened just enough to hit the top of off stump. He described it as a “big wicket,” adding that Pant was a threat for England even when not at full fitness.
"That's better! Jofra Archer comes steaming in. A great delivery - the angle just squared Rishabh Pant up. It just hit the top of off stump. Big wicket for England. Pant is a dangerman even with one hand," Tufnell stated, as quoted by BBC Test Match Special.
England Are on Top of India After Rishabh Pant’s Wicket on Day 5
India were 58 for 4 at the end of Day 4. Brydon Carse struck twice by removing Karun Nair (14) and captain Shubman Gill (6), while Jofra Archer dismissed Yashasvi Jaiswal for a duck. Ben Stokes later cleaned up nightwatchman Akash Deep for just 1.
Earlier in the match, both sides posted identical first-innings totals of 387. India then gained the upper hand by bowling England out for just 192 in their second innings. Washington Sundar took 4 for 22, while Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj secured two wickets each.
England had won the first Test at Headingley, while India bounced back with a dominant win at Edgbaston. With the series level at 1-1, the result at Lord’s could give the winner a crucial lead in the five-match series.
