England National Cricket Team skipper Jos Buttler switched on his savage mode at the toss ahead of the commencement of the fifth and final T20I of the series against India National Cricket Team.

Jos Buttler, in a brutal attack at the match referee Javagal Srinath, named four impact substitutes while speaking to Ravi Shastri at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Sunday, February 02.

Why did Jos Buttler name 4 impact subs at the toss?

The 'Impact Sub' also known as the 'Impact Player' rule in IPL, allows a team to substitute any player from their starting XI at any point during the match.

In the Indian Premier League (IPL), the teams are asked to name five impact substitutes in addition to their playing XI at the toss. This rule allows a team to use 12 players in a match.

Notably, India were accused of using 12 players and impact player rule in the fourth T20I against England after Harshit Rana was included in the India XI as a concussion substitute for all-rounder Shivam Dube.

Dube, after smashing a brilliant fifty, was hit on the head in the 20th over of the first innings and was concussed. As a result, India opted for a concussion substitute and Harshit Rana replaced Dube.

Many former India and England cricketers felt that Rana being allowed as a concussion substitute was not the right call and that Ramandeep Singh should have replaced Dube in the playing XI.

Jos Buttler was also furious at Rana coming in India playing XI in place of Shivam Dube and speaking at the post-match press conference, he was asked whether it was more of a case of an impact player than a concussion substitute.

Replying to this, Jos Buttler came up with a tongue-in-cheek response and said, “Maybe at the toss next game, I will say we are going to play 12 as well." The English skipper then fulfilled his promise in the Mumbai T20I.

Four impact subs are Rehan Ahmed, Saqib Mahmood, Jamie Smith, Gus Atkinson - Jos Buttler

Speaking at the toss, Jos Buttler revealed that Mark Wood replaced Saqib Mahmood in their playing XI and he further went on to name four impact subs - Rehan Ahmed, Saqib Mahmood, Jamie Smith, Gus Atkinson - in a brutal dig at Dube-Rana concussion sub incident.

"Yeah we did, we played good cricket in patches. We are trying to enforce the style of play, we want to and win crucial moments in the game," Jos Buttler said.

'Yeah, good vibe around the team. This is a good venue to play cricket in any format. It is usually a good wicket. We are going to chase. We got one change, Mark Wood comes in and four impact subs are Rehan Ahmed, Saqib Mahmood, Jamie Smith, Gus Atkinson. Yeah, both teams have high-octane batting, this is the venue for us," Jos Buttler added.
