PC: X

Australia wicketkeeper Josh Inglis took a brilliant diving catch to dismiss Team India all-rounder Shivam Dube in the second T20I against Australia on Friday, October 31. The dismissal came during India’s innings in the second match of the ongoing five-game series at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in Melbourne.

Team India got off to a disastrous start after being asked to bat first. Josh Hazlewood ran through India’s top order with a brilliant spell with the new ball. The visitors lost half their side for just 49 runs in 7.3 overs. Harshit Rana was promoted in the batting order ahead of Shubman Gill, which surprised many.

Harshit Rana’s Promotion Pays Off for India in 2nd T20I

Harshit Rana walked to the crease earlier than expected, coming in at No. 7 ahead of Shivam Dube. India had suffered a top-order collapse, and Axar Patel’s run-out left the team struggling at 49/5 in the eighth over.

Dube, known as a reliable middle-order option in T20Is, was surprisingly held back. Rana, who had been listed at No. 6 in both matches of the series and hadn’t batted in the rain-hit opener in Canberra, was given a promotion in this crucial contest.

The move paid off as Rana absorbed the pressure and played a valuable cameo. He scored 35 runs off 33 deliveries, including three fours and a six, as India were bowled out for 125 in 20 overs.

Abhishek Sharma and Harshit Rana Shine, but Australia Maintain Tight Grip in 2nd T20I

Australia put India in to bat in the second T20I, with the visitors depending largely on Abhishek Sharma and Harshit Rana for resistance. Abhishek top-scored with a fluent 68 off 37 balls, featuring eight fours and two sixes, while India’s top order crumbled with several batters dismissed for single-digit scores.

Josh Hazlewood spearheaded Australia’s bowling attack with superb figures of 3 for 13, removing Shubman Gill, Suryakumar Yadav, and Tilak Varma. Nathan Ellis and Xavier Bartlett chipped in by dismissing Sanju Samson and Shivam Dube, as India were bundled out for 125 in 18.4 overs.

The series opener in Canberra was washed out due to rain on Wednesday. Both sides will meet again for the third T20I in Hobart on Sunday, November 2.
