Lucknow Super Giants head coach Justin Langer was in a cheerful mood after his team’s thrilling 12-run win against Mumbai Indians in the 16th match of the ongoing IPL 2025 on Friday (April 4).
Justin Langer’s jovial attitude was clear during the post-match press conference, where a funny yet memorable moment left everyone smiling.
As Langer was addressing a question about Lucknow Super Giants pacer Mayank Yadav’s fitness, a reporter’s phone suddenly started ringing on the desk. Without wasting a second, the former Australian head coach jokingly asked, “Whose mum is calling?”
“Mom, It’s 12:08 AM!” – Justin Langer’s pess conference steals the show after LSG vs MI clash in Lucknow
Langer then politely asked if he could take the call and, with permission, picked up the phone himself. Speaking to the reporter’s mother, the former Australian opener said playfully, “Mom, it’s 12:08 AM; I am at a press conference.”
After the adorable moment, Langer continued and shared an update on Mayank Yadav’s recovery. The Lucknow Super Giants coach said that Mayank is about 95% recovered and is working hard to clear his fitness test soon.
Langer said at the press conference, “What I do know is he's working very hard at the NCA, and I saw some video of him bowling yesterday [Thursday], and he was bowling at about 90 to 95%.”

Justin Langer praises NCA and Centre of Excellence's role in Mayank Yadav's recovery
The LSG head coach said that Mayank’s raw speed is special and that it gives the team a unique edge. He added, “So Mayank's up and running, which is really great for Indian cricket, for IPL. We saw the impact he had last year. I don't think there's been a bowler in India who's bowled faster than Mayank Yadav. That's why there's so much talk about him.”
Justin Langer also appreciated the role of the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence and the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in helping fast bowlers make a strong comeback.
He credited the efforts of the NCA to bring back bowlers like Avesh Khan and Akash Deep, who have now returned to full fitness after recovering from their injuries, to the squad for the ongoing IPL 2025.
Justin Langer signed off by saying, “He's up, he's keen to get going. He bowled really well in Bangalore yesterday at the NCA. I think you have another couple of bowls, and hopefully... NCA, to their credit, have obviously done a very good job because they've got Avesh Khan back for us, and they've got our Akash Deep back for us. So, we really appreciate the work they're doing to get the boys back playing, and now hopefully Mayank as well.”

Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya's efforts go in vain
Speaking about the match, LSG posted 203/8 on the board, thanks to Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram’s stunning fifties against the Mumbai Indians in Lucknow. Hardik Pandya starred with the ball, taking a five-wicket haul. However, MI fell 12 runs short of the target against the LSG.
Suryakumar Yadav played a brilliant knock of 67 runs off 43 balls, while Naman Dhir played a quick knock of 46 runs off 24 balls, but Tilak Varma’s slow 25-run knock of 23 balls didn’t help the five-time champions as LSG won the game by 12 runs in Lucknow.
