Allrounder Kyle Mayers produced a stunning athletic display of fielding during the fifth match of the Caribbean Premier League 2024 between St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots and St. Lucia Kings.

During the second ball of the fourth over of the match when St. Lucia Kings were batting, Kings skipper Faf du Plessis walked at the fast bowler Anrich Nortje and tried to hit the ball over midwicket. But the ball hit the higher part of his bat and went over mid-on.

Kyle Mayers, who was stationed at mid-on, ran backward and managed to complete an astonishing catch just over his right shoulder to dismiss Faf du Plessis for just 2 runs. It was a superb display of athleticism from the West Indies all-rounder.

Watch- Athleticism at its best as Kyle Mayers takes a breathtaking catch

Kyle Mayers had a superb day with the bat and ball as well. Earlier in the first innings of the match, he scored a brilliant 92 off 62 balls, which included 6 fours and 7 sixes.

The left-hander stitched a massive partnership of 199 runs with opener Evin Lewis to take St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots to a 200-plus-score.

Evin Lewis and Kyle Mayers put on a marathon partnership

Earlier, St. Lucia Kings won the toss and elected to field first. Patriots lost Andre Fletcher early to a superb run out from Ackeem Auguste. But Mayers walked in at No. 3 and formed a marathon partnership with Evin Lewis.

Both the batters kept attacking the bowlers as none of the St. Lucia Kings bowlers apart from Noor Ahmad could create an impact. Rain arrived during the latter part of the innings but play resumed shortly with no overs lost.

St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots finished on 201-3 in 20 overs. Evin Lewis scored a brilliant hundred as he finished unbeaten on 100 off 54 balls with 7 fours and 9 sixes while Mayers was dismissed in the last over.

St. Lucia Kings pull off a stunning win

Chasing a daunting target, the Kings got off to the worst possible start as they lost their first four wickets for just 24 runs. Kyle Mayers shone again with the new ball as he picked up 2 wickets upfront.

But Bhanuka Rajapaksa and Tim Seifert had other ideas. Seifert was the more attacking of the two as he smashed 64 off 27 balls with 4 fours and 6 sixes. He was dismissed in the 11th over of the match but had done his job by then.

David Wiese provided the finishing touches as he scored 34 off 20 balls. Rajapaksa remained unbeaten on 68 off 35 balls as St. Lucia Kings pulled off a stunning win at Basseterre.

For Patriots, Mayers and Nortje picked up two wickets each but failed to take their team over the line.
