Team India captain Rohit Sharma lightened the mood with a humorous remark about his form during the Champions Trophy 2025 press conference. Rohit Sharma admitted that he has been going through a lean patch ahead of the ICC tournament, which is scheduled to take place in Pakistan and Dubai.
On Saturday, January 18, the BCCI announced India's squad for the Champions Trophy. Rohit Sharma will captain the team in the tournament, with Shubman Gill serving as his vice-captain. Ahead of the marquee event, the India national cricket team will play an exciting white-ball home series against England.
My Form Is Bad from the Last 3 Months, Not 6 Months: Rohit Sharma
During the press conference, Rohit and Ajit Agarkar answered multiple questions about team selection and omissions. When asked about his recent form, Rohit humorously remarked that his form had been bad for the past three months, not six, leaving fans and reporters bursting into laughter.

Rohit Sharma Had a Forgettable 2024 in Test Cricket
Rohit had a challenging tour of Australia, scoring only 31 runs in three Tests, with a best score of 10. The 37-year-old dropped himself from the playing XI during the fifth Test in Sydney. He also came under scrutiny for his captaincy as India failed to qualify for the World Test Championship final for the first time.
In 2024, the batter scored just 619 runs in 14 Tests at an average of 24.76, with two centuries and two fifties. He performed well in the home series against England, scoring two centuries, but his form faltered in the home series against Bangladesh. The captain only managed one fifty as India suffered a 3-0 defeat.
After a tough few months in Test cricket, the batter plans to regain form in the Ranji Trophy. Rohit has confirmed his availability for Mumbai’s upcoming Ranji match against Jammu & Kashmir, starting on January 23. Notably, the BCCI has made domestic cricket mandatory for selection in international cricket.
India's Schedule for Upcoming Limited-Overs Cricket Series
India's limited-overs series against England will begin with a five-match T20I series in Kolkata, starting on January 22. The second match will take place in Chennai on January 25, followed by Rajkot on January 28. The remaining games are scheduled for Pune and Mumbai on January 31 and February 2, respectively.
Following the T20Is, India will shift their focus to the ODI series, with the first match set for February 6 in Nagpur. The subsequent games will be played in Cuttack on February 9 and Ahmedabad on February 13.
After the bilateral series, India will head to Dubai for the 2025 Champions Trophy. The Men in Blue, placed in Group A, will face Bangladesh in their opening match on February 20. All of India's group-stage games will be hosted in Dubai due to security concerns raised by the Indian government.
