England performed poorly in their last ICC Champions Trophy match
In their last ICC Champions Trophy match on June 14, 2017, England delivered a poor performance against Pakistan. It was the first semi-final of the competition in Cardiff where the Three Lions faced an 8-wicket loss.
England entered the match as strong favorites, but they struggled to adapt to the conditions and were outplayed in all facets of the game.
Batting first on a dry and slow surface, England scored only 211 before getting bowled out. England had a promising start in the match with Jonny Bairstow (43) and Joe Root (46) setting a decent platform, but the middle order failed to capitalize on it.
The likes of Eoin Morgan (33) and Ben Stokes (34 off 64 balls) also struggled against Pakistan's bowling attack. Hasan Ali (3/35) led the charge, supported by Junaid Khan (2/42) and Rumman Raees (2/44), to bowl England out for the low score.
While defending the total, England desperately needed early breakthroughs, but they were unsuccessful. Pakistan's openers, Azhar Ali (76) and Fakhar Zaman (57) dominated right from the start and stitched up a stunning 118-run partnership. After their dismissal, Babar Azam (38) and Mohammad Hafeez )31) led the Men In Green to an amazing victory with 77 balls to spare.
With the loss, England's dream to win the Champions Trophy was shattered and English skipper Eoin Morgan had admitted that they had not prepared for a used pitch
