Marnus Labuschagne falls short of his fifty in high-profile clash

The 30-year-old Labuschagne played confident cricket while chasing a huge total of 352 runs against arch-rivals England National Cricket Team.

After coming out to bat at the No.4 spot, he hit some terrific boundaries to put some pressure back on the English team. However, he was unable to convert his aggressive start into a big score.

Marnus Labuschagne's counterattack knock ended in the 20th over of the innings and he fell short of a well-deserved half-century in the match.

On the second ball of the 20th over, the veteran leg-spinner Adil Rashid bowled a slow tossed-up delivery to the Aussie batter wide outside off-stump.

Labuschagne smashed the ball to the cover region without much elevation, and Jos Buttler took a sharp catch to dismiss him. Marnus Labuschagne gave an angry reaction after getting out and he looked extremely disappointed.

He scored 47 runs off 45 balls, with 5 fours and after his dismissal, the Australia National Cricket Team were left struggling at 122/3.

How things panned out in the previous England vs Australia ODI match?

The previous ODI match between England and Australia was held on September 29, 2024. Australia bagged a 49-run victory in that game via the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method in Bristol to seal the series 3-2.

After being invited to bat first, England finished up with 309/10 in 49.2 overs. Opener Ben Duckett shined with an amazing 107 off 91 balls, while Harry Brook provided him with a strong support with his brilliant 72-run knock off 52 balls.

The Three Lions were set for a total in excess of 350, but they suffered a dramatic collapse, losing 8 wickets for 107 runs. Travis Head led the bowling attack for Australia with a career-best 4/28, while Aaron Hardie (2/38), Adam Zampa (2/74) and Glenn Maxwell (2/49) also contributed very well.

Due to rain interruptions, Australia got a revised target of 117 runs from 20.4 overs. Openers Travis Head (31 off 26) and Matthew Short (58 off 30) gave Australia a blistering start with a 78-run stand.

Then, Steve Smith (36 off 48*) and Josh Inglis (28 off 20*) joined forces to steer Australia to a series-clinching victory. For England, Brydon Carse and Matthew Potts picked up a wicket each.
