Indian opener Mayank Agarwal has returned to the nets for batting after recovering from the concussion suffering ahead of the first Test against England. Mayank Agarwal sustained a blow to the head while batting in a training session and unfortunately, that ruled him out of the Nottingham Test. But the right-handed batsman has resumed his business, waiting for an opportunity.

Mayank Agarwal was the frontrunner to open the innings with Rohit Sharma in the opening Test against England in Nottingham. The Karnataka opener emerged as the first-choice opener since Shubman Gill returned home due to an injury. However, the prolific batsman could not take the field and KL Rahul took his spot.

In a video by ESPN Cricinfo, Mayank Agarwal could be seen hitting some light shots at the Lord’s. He played a couple of drives on the front foot from a high backlift. Even though Agarwal was not in full flow, the fans were glad to see him return to what he does best. The 30-year old has not played a Test since January, but averages a healthy 45.74 in 14 Tests.

However, Mayank Agarwal will most likely not get an opportunity in the second Test at the Lord’s, starting on Friday. With KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma delivering good returns at the top, Agarwal has to wait for his opportunity.

Rahul made 84 in the first innings in Nottingham and threaded a 97-run opening stand with Rohit Sharma. The pair also delivered a promising start in the second innings when India were chasing 209 for victory. Unfortunately, the Test resulted in a draw due to the final day being washed out by persistent showers.
