During the Big Bash League 2023-24 final between Brisbane Heat and Sydney Sixers, Heat all-rounder Michael Neser hung onto a brilliant catch on the boundary. The incident took place on the second ball of the 18th over when Sean Abbott hit a fullish-pitched ball down the ground. Abbott got in the zone of the ball and tried to hit it for a six.

However, Sean Abbott was not able to clear the boundary as the Brisbane Heat all-rounder Michael Neser held onto a brilliant catch on the boundary line. Neser caught the ball at the long-on position and was sliding down above the boundary rope. However, Neser held onto the catch and threw it back when he went over the boundary line. Paul Walter completed the catch and Sean Abbott had to walk back for 16 runs off 11 balls.

It was a second title for the Brisbane Heat as they defeated Sydney Sixers in the final held at the Sydney Cricket Ground by 54 runs. Heat bowler Spencer Johnson was the Player of the Match for his impressive bowling performance of 4/26.

Batting first at the Sydney Cricket Ground, Brisbane Heat were not off to a brilliant start as they lost opener Jimmy Pierson for 4 runs off 4 balls. However, Nathan McSweeney and Josh Brown added 85 runs off 67 balls for the second wicket. McSweeney departed for 33 runs off 32 balls and hit a total of 5 fours during his stay at the crease.

Straight after the dismissal of Nathan McSweeney, Josh Brown departed for 53 runs from 38 balls and hit a total of 5 fours and 3 sixes. Soon after losing, two back-to-back wickets, Matt Renshaw and Max Bryant added 57 runs from 35 balls for the fourth wicket. Renshaw scored 40 runs off 22 balls but Bryant hit 29 runs from 19 balls.

However, soon after the departure of Bryant, Brisbane Heat lost wickets quickly as Paul Walter, Michael Neser, and Xavier Bartlett got out without adding many runs on the scoreboard. At last, Brisbane Heat finished first innings 166/8.

Sean Abbott picked up four wickets for the Sydney Sixers, whereas, Steve O’Keefe and Ben Dwarshius picked up 1 wicket a piece.

Chasing down the target, Sydney Sixers lost their first wicket for 3 runs as Daniel Hughes departed for 1 run. However, Jack Edwards and Josh Philippe added 31 runs from 21 balls for the second wicket. While Edwards departed for 16 runs off 10 balls, Philippe was dismissed for 23 runs from 22 balls.

Moises Henriques also was not able to do much and he was dismissed for 25 runs from 27 balls. Jordan Silk was also not able to do much and was removed for a duck. Joel Davies also was not able to impress and was removed for 15 runs from 1o balls. Hayden Kerr and Ben Dwarshius were also removed for 6 and 0 runs respectively.

At last, Sydney Sixers were bowled out for 112 runs and lost the final match by 54 runs. Spencer Johnson was the star of the show for the Brisbane Heat and picked up four wickets by giving away 26 runs. Mitchell Swepson and Xavier Bartlett picked up 2 wickets each. Paul Walter and Michael Neser ended up with 1 wicket each.
