Australia's Mitchell Owen has slammed the joint-fastest hundred in the history of the Big Bash League (BBL). The fact that Owen's hundred came in the big final between Hobart Hurricanes and Sydney Thunder makes this knock even more special.

Owen brought up his hundred off just 39 deliveries and equalled Craig Simmons in the list who also scored a century off 39 balls way back in 2014 while playing for Perth Scorchers. It was a special knock from the youngster who will remember this innings throughout his lifetime.

Mitchell Owen reached the milestone with an attempted pull off the legspinner Tanveer Sangha for a couple towards midwicket. He scampered through for two and was absolutely pumped after reaching the three-figure mark.

It was the second hundred in this BBL season for Owen. He received a standing ovation from the crowd at Bellerive Oval in Hobart and the batter fully acknowledged it. He also received a long standing ovation from the Hurricanes dugout.

The 23-year-old didn't stop after completing his hundred and smashed a six into the stands in the next ball. However, his heroic effort ended in the next over as he was dismissed by the left-arm spinner Tom Andrews for 102 off just 42 balls with 6 fours and 11 sixes.

Craig Simmons congraulates Mitchell Owen

Mitchell Owen was congratulated by Craig Simmons for joining the sub-40 club after he former brought up his hundred. It is to be noted that Simmons was the only player to score a hundred in less than 40 balls in BBL history.

"Serious knock by big boy Owen , great 100 in a final . Nice to have another member in the sub 40 ball 100 club . Maybe we can take that player of the match KFC voucher and settle it over an eat off," Simmons posted on X (formerly Twitter).

Blistering knock from Mitchell Owen

It was an innings full of entertainment from Mitchell Owen as he came out with an attacking mindset. He formed a blistering opening partnership of 109 runs in 7.2 overs with the left-hander Caleb Jewell. Interestingly, Jewell scored just 13 runs in this partnership.

Hurricanes lost Nikhil Chaudhary soon after but Owen carried on in his merry way. He kept playing the big shots during his knock and put the bowlers under immense pressure.

Owen made good use of shorter boundaries and played his innings smartly. His whirlwind knock changed the complexion of the game as Hurricanes went way ahead even when he was dismissed.
