New Zealand all-rounder Mitchell Santner was involved in a rare moment during The Hundred match between Birmingham Phoenix and Trent Rockets after asking the on-field umpire to review his own run-out. Santner was given out after replays showed he was short of his ground, and the video went viral.
The incident took place during the fourth men's match of the season at Edgbaston in Birmingham on Friday, July 24. Birmingham Phoenix defeated Trent Rockets by 10 runs after defending a total of 214. Santner had a disappointing outing, finishing with figures of 0/39 before scoring seven runs off eight balls.

During the 85th ball of the Trent Rockets chase, Tom Banton drove Ben Dwarshuis to long-off and called for a second run. Donovan Ferreira collected the ball and threw it towards Ben Dwarshuis. Mitchell Santner sprinted back to the non-striker's end and put in a full-length dive.
Dwarshuis appeared to fumble the throw, and the ball ricocheted onto the stumps. The on-field umpire did not send the decision upstairs, believing Santner had made his ground. However, Santner himself asked whether the run-out had been reviewed.
The umpire then referred the decision to the third umpire. Replays showed that despite his dive, Santner had failed to get his bat behind the popping crease before the stumps were broken. He was given out, leaving players and spectators surprised by the unusual incident.

Joe Clarke and Will Smeed Power Birmingham Phoenix to 214
After being asked to bat first, Birmingham Phoenix got off to a flying start. Openers Joe Clarke and Will Smeed dominated the Trent Rockets bowlers and brought up the team's 100 in just 44 deliveries, putting the opposition under early pressure.
Clarke reached his fifty off 24 balls and continued to attack the bowlers with aggressive stroke play. Calvin Harrison ended the 104-run opening stand by dismissing Clarke for 68, while Smeed also reached his half-century before falling to Harrison for 51 off 28 balls.
The middle order kept the momentum going in the closing stages. Rehan Ahmed smashed 48 off 25 balls, while Donovan Ferreira remained unbeaten on 22 from nine deliveries. Birmingham Phoenix finished with a massive 214/4, their highest total in The Hundred.
Tom Banton's 67 Goes in Vain as Trent Rockets Lose by 10 Runs
Chasing 215, Trent Rockets made a positive start through Finn Allen and Ben Duckett. The pair added 54 runs during the first 25 balls before Usman Tariq dismissed Allen for 43 off 17 balls. Scott Currie then removed Duckett for 49 to put Birmingham Phoenix back in control.
Despite the early wickets, Tom Banton kept the chase alive with an attacking knock. He reached his fifty in just 26 balls and shared a 34-run partnership with Mitchell Santner. However, Currie struck again to dismiss Banton for 67 off 32 deliveries, leaving Trent Rockets with too much to do.
Calvin Harrison provided a late flourish with an unbeaten 12, including two consecutive sixes, but the target proved out of reach. Trent Rockets finished on 204/7, falling 10 runs short in the contest.
