Pakistan sent a stern warning to India before the Asia Cup 2025 by dominating Afghanistan in the T20I Tri-Series 2025 Final at Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Sunday (September 7). Thanks to Mohammad Nawaz’s record-breaking spell, Pakistan crushed Afghanistan by 75 runs in Sharjah.

Mohammad Nawaz delivered his career-best T20I performance, taking five wickets for just 19 runs against Afghanistan to help the Men in Green lift the T20I Tri-Series 2025 trophy on Sunday. Chasing a target of 142, the Afghan side collapsed to only 66 runs in 15.5 overs on the spinning pitch.

Afghanistan crumbles to Mohammad Nawaz's magic in the T20I Tri-Series 2025 Final

Mohammad Nawaz was the main architect of Afghanistan’s collapse in the T20I Tri-Series 2025 Final, and his hat-trick was the highlight of the match in Sharjah. In the 6th over, the left-arm spinner dismissed Darwish Rasooli and Azmatullah Omarzai on consecutive balls for a duck.

Then, in his next over, Mohammad Nawaz trapped Ibrahim Zadran for 9 runs on the very first ball, completing his hat trick. After demolishing Afghanistan, Nawaz became only the third Pakistani bowler to take a hat-trick in the T20I cricket after Faheem Ashraf and Mohammad Hasnain.

Speaking about the hat-trick, Nawaz bowled a slower, looping delivery that came around the middle and leg stump. Darwish Rasooli tried to play it across the line, but the ball hit his pads right in front of the stumps. The Pakistani bowler immediately appealed confidently for lbw.

How Mohammad Nawaz completes a hat-trick in Sharjah?

The umpire didn’t take the time to raise his finger to give Rasooli lbw out. There was some doubt if the ball was pitched in line, but the umpire ruled in the bowler’s favor. Rasooli walked back to the pavilion without opening his account after facing the five balls.

Nawaz continued his fiery spell as he bowled a fuller delivery just outside off stump, tempting Azmatullah Omarzai to go for a cut shot. But Azmatullah got a thick edge as he tried to play across the line, and the ball flew straight to the Pakistan wicketkeeper, Mohammad Haris.

The sound of the edge was loud, and the umpire yet again raised his finger to give him out as Azmatullah was dismissed for a golden duck. Then, in the 8th over, the 31-year-old completed his hat trick. It was the first ball of the over and a hat-trick delivery for Nawaz.

Nawaz removes Ibrahim Zadran with a beauty

He bowled a sharp delivery that tempted Ibrahim Zadran to step out of his crease and play the ball. Zadran missed the ball, and it went past his bat and wicketkeeper Haris collected the ball and whipped off the bails before Zadran could get back.

His back foot was well outside the crease, and he had to walk back to the dugout for just 9 runs off 15 balls. And that’s how Nawaz completed his record hat trick.

In the same over, he dismissed Karim Janat and then Rashid Khan to complete his five-wicket haul against Afghanistan in Sharjah.

With this, Nawaz becomes only the third bowler to take a five-wicket haul against Afghanistan in T20Is after Bhuvneshwar Kumar (Asia Cup 2022) and Sam Curran (T20 World Cup 2022).
