Mohammad Rizwan hogged the spotlight for all wrong reasons during the second ODI match between Australia and Pakistan at the Adelaide Oval in Adelaide on Friday (November 8). The Pakistan captain first dropped an easy catch and, in the same over, he wasted a valuable review against Australia.
The incident unfolded in the 34th over when Australia was batting at the Adelaide Oval. Opening the 34th over, Naseem Shah delivered a short ball outside off, tempting Adam Zampa into a pull. However, the Australian spinner didn’t connect cleanly, sending a top edge high into the air.
Mohammad Rizwan’s missed opportunity, and amusing stump mic drama light up the Adelaide ODI
Mohammad Rizwan ran to chase the ball to his right, and he was perfectly positioned to take a straightforward catch. But as the Pakistan skipper reached up, the ball slipped off the end of his gloves, hit the edge, and fell to the ground, and Zampa got a single.
Rizwan, wearing sunglasses, looks skyward in frustration, as the Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter knew he missed an easy chance. Well, Mohammad Rizwan has not only dropped Zampa but also the chance to set the world record for most dismissals by a wicket-keeper in an ODI innings.
However, Pakistan’s new white-ball captain made history by grabbing six catches in a single ODI innings, equaling both the Pakistan and world record for the most catches taken by a wicketkeeper in an ODI match.
Rizwan has taken the catches of Steve Smith, Josh Inglis, Marnus Labuschagne, Aaron Hardie, Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc in Adelaide. However, if he had completed Adam Zampa’s catch, Rizwan would have scripted history by becoming the player with the most dismissals by a keeper in an ODI inning.

Pakistan loses review because of Rizwan taking Adam Zampa's advice
Meanwhile, the drama was not ended there, as Rizwan appealed for a faint edge against Naseem Shah’s high bouncer to Zampa. However, the umpire wasn’t convinced, but Rizwan went for DRS after asking Zampa if he should go for the review, which sparked an amusing exchange caught by the stump mic in Adelaide. And at the end, Zampa walked away with a grin.
Rizwan asked Zampa, 'Did you hear something?’ Zampa replied, ‘You seem to appeal for everything.' Then, the Pakistan skipper again asked, ‘Should I take the review now?’ The Australian spinner said, ‘Ya, you should take it.'

Rizwan eventually went for DRS, and the replays showed that there was no edge and the delivery was too high, ending in a lost review for Pakistan and a call of wide in Adelaide. Well, Pakistan won the second ODI by nine wickets to level the ongoing three-match ODI series 1-1 against Australia.
Hopefully, we keep this confidence going forward to Perth: Rizwan
After winning the second ODI against Australia in Adelaide, Rizwan said: "Hopefully we keep this confidence going forward to Perth. A win is a win. We decided to bowl after winning the toss. Our bowlers bowled well and we found success. Everyone is enjoying Haris Rauf's (5/29) bowling. Not only fans from Pakistan, but also from all around the world, everyone enjoys to watch him bowl."
Now, the ODI series decider between Australia and Pakistan will be played at the Optus Stadium in Perth on November 10.
