Pakistan kept many wondering about the opening combination for the tri-series as well as the ICC Champions Trophy 2025

Pakistan National Cricket Team have kept many wondering about the opening combination for the tri-series as well as the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. With Saim Ayub being ruled out, there isn't any specialist opener in the team apart from Fakhar Zaman.

On the eve of the game against the New Zealand National Cricket Team, captain Mohammad Rizwan was asked by the reporters about the same. They forced the skipper to reveal the opening combination and he came up with the cheeky response.

'King kar lega' - Mohammad Rizwan on who will open innings for Pakistan in ODIs

Mohammad Rizwan used Hasan Ali's famous statement of "King kr lega" while pointing towards the Babar Azam. Speaking to reporters, he said:

"Iske jawaab mein woh baat ki thi na, 'King kar lega'." (The answer is, there was a line 'King will do it'.)

His void is in the team because he is such a package for Pakistan - Mohammad Rizwan on Saim Ayub

Mohammad Rizwan also talked about the absence of Saim Ayub, saying that the batter's void is there in the team, pointing out the kind of performances that he has put in. He admitted that with batter getting ruled out, their planning also got disturbed. He added:

"Look, we all know how well Saim Ayub performed recently. It was exceptional, considering the conditions and opposition he flared against. Anyway, his void is in the team because he is such a package for Pakistan who can be fit anywhere be it his bowling, fielding or batting.

"You can also see that our planning got disturbed, but we should not be focusing on the names but on the process. So, his void is there, but the process remained the same for us, and it will not be an excuse for us."

Saim Ayub injured himself during the Test series against the South Africa National Cricket Team. Before getting injured, he was in red-hot form as he slammed two centuries in the three games that he played against the Proteas in the three-match ODI series.

In his absence, Babar Azam has been assigned a new role, and it will be a great opportunity for him to adopt the role in the tri-series before the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. He has opened in T20Is and has been extremely successful there. He would be keen to score runs at the top and get back to form as well.
