The tension boiled over at Headingley on Day 5 of the first Test as Mohammed Siraj lost his temper during a fiery exchange with England openers Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett. With India desperate for a breakthrough and England racing towards the target, every ball mattered for both sides.
Amidst the high intensity, a fiery drama unfolded just before lunch on Day 5 of the ongoing first Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy at Headingley. In the middle of a pressure-packed session, Mohammed Siraj was seen sprinting back to his mark as he was ready to bowl the last delivery of the 30th over.

But just as the Indian pacer was ready to deliver, Zak Crawley pulled away at the last second, pointing at the sight screen, clearly trying to break Siraj’s rhythm and waste time. Siraj, known for wearing his emotions on his sleeve, wasn’t happy at all. The bowler was seen annoyed as he rushed back again to get into position, visibly frustrated by Crawley’s delay.
The drama didn’t stop there. Siraj bowled a full delivery on off-stump that was calmly tapped to mid-on by Crawley. But instead of turning back to his mark, Siraj stormed down the pitch and got right into the batter’s face and let his frustration show.
Some fiery words were exchanged as Siraj got in Crawley’s face, clearly unhappy with what had just unfolded. Even Duckett joined the duo, trying to defuse the situation. Siraj also engaged in a heated chat with Duckett as players left the field.

India struggle as England race to 117/0 at lunch on Day 5
Meanwhile, England made a strong statement in the first session of Day 5 at Headingley, staying rock-solid in their chase of 371 against India. Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett remained unbeaten on 42 and 64, respectively, guiding England to 117/0 at lunch in just 30 overs against India.

The Indian team looked frustrated, especially the new captain Shubman Gill, as they repeatedly asked the umpires to change the worn-out ball. But the on-field umpires refused, saying the ball passed the standard checks. With no help from the conditions, Indian bowlers struggled to take a single wicket before the lunch break at Headingley.
On the other hand, England is scoring at just the right pace, nearly four runs an over, and they look well set for a historic chase. With 66 overs left and all 10 wickets in hand, the hosts are far ahead in the first Test. They can easily win the five-match Test series opener at Headingley unless India can pull off something special or the weather causes drama on the final day.
History favors England at Headingley
Notably, Headingley has been a happy hunting ground for teams chasing big scores. In the last six Test matches played here, four have ended with teams successfully chasing over 250 runs in the fourth innings. Interestingly, England has pulled off three of those thrilling wins. They chased twice against Australia in 2019 and 2023 and once against New Zealand in 2022.
