Mohammed Siraj Against Rahmat Shah In India Vs Afghanistan Test
PC: X

The temperature at New Chandigarh is around 38 degrees Celsius, and things got heated more at the Maharaja Singh PCA Stadium as Mohammed Siraj exchanged a few words with the Afghanistan batter Rahmat Shah.

By then, Team India was already in a commanding position, and Rahmat Shah’s defensive mindset only resulted in frustration for the Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj. Whether it is a franchise match or a match for the national side, Siraj is never shy to throw himself into the fire.

Mohammed Siraj exchanged a heated moment with Afghanistan's Rahmat Shah

Aggression is a part of pace bowling, and Siraj is among the pacers in modern cricket who know when to throw some words to the opposing batters to play with their minds. Shah was the well-set batter on the track, and by displaying his defensive skills, he was trying to protect the tail to somehow avoid the follow-on.

Rahmat countered the fourth ball of the 53rd over of their first innings with a solid backfoot defence, which annoyed Mohammed Siraj very much. Continuing his follow-through, Siraj went straight to the batter and hit him with some words. The batter, first welcomed the situation with a smile on his face, but that did not cool down the heated bowler, and the situation got more intense.

Commentators explain the Mohammed Siraj vs Rahmat Shah incident

As Rahmat was doing constant defence, the commentators were also discussing what the batter’s next move could be to score some runs, as the batter on the other end was struggling against the spinners.

“The point is, how is Rahmat gonna score runs? He's got the other man. At the other end, when he's playing against spin, he's hobbling. The only thing he can maybe do is play a big shot,” one of the commentators on air said.

“Siraj is asking him that now I'm saying. Look, what are you doing? Mate, what's going on in this game? You're just blocking it. Now there's 200 and 50 over left, so she's getting very rattled. There's a solid defense. I don't think there's any issue with the batters, just what's going on, mate, this is ridiculous. Get him off the field. Get someone in here,” the other commentator carried on on the same note.

Manav Suthar turns wrecker-in-chief in his debut Test

Only blocking actually did not work well in favor of the Afghanistan cricket team, as they bundled only for 152 runs against India’s first innings’ 564. Rahmat Shah was the only batter from the visitors’ end who displayed some resistance against the Indian bowling attack, scoring 60 runs from 135 balls before being bowled out by the debutant spinner Manav Suthar. Shah’s 60-run knock was decorated with nine 4s, one 6, and a lot of defenses.

In the first innings, Mohammed Siraj returned wicketless after delivering 9 overs. It was the spinner Suthar, who took 6 wickets in 22 overs and dismantled Afghanistan’s batting order completely.
