India’s fiery pacer Mohammed Siraj delivered a dream delivery to send Brandon King back to the pavilion early in the morning session on Day 1 of the ongoing first Test against the West Indies at the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad on Thursday (September 2).

Brandon King had started confidently with three crisp boundaries in his 13 off 15 balls and was looking settled at the crease, but Mohammed Siraj had other plans. Charging in with his trademark energy, Siraj unleashed a sharp inswinger that cut back in fiercely.

Mohammed Siraj’s dream delivery destroys Brandon King's stumps

Mohammed Siraj had already sent two big inswingers in the previous deliveries. Both had jagged backs sharply, hinting at the movement on offer. Despite that warning, King failed to make the right call.

Surprisingly, Brendon King decided to leave the ball, expecting it to sail past the stumps. Instead, it sneaked through the gap between bat and pad. It crashed straight into the middle stump with enough force to send it flying behind the wicketkeeper.

Siraj burst into his trademark Ronaldo-style celebration, leaping and spinning with arms outstretched.

On the other hand, King could only shake his head and walk back disappointed, as his misjudgment proved costly for the West Indies, leaving them in early trouble.

Notably, Brandon King’s early struggles against pace have become a growing concern for the West Indies in the Test cricket. Out of his seven Test innings so far, five have ended the same way—either bowled or trapped in front by seamers.

KL Rahul takes stunning catch as Mohammed Siraj sends Alick Athanaze packing

Well, after removing King with his magical delivery, Mohammed Siraj struck again to remove Alick Athanaze with a clever change of angle to help India take the upper hand in Ahmedabad. Coming around the wicket, Siraj pitched the ball up and just outside off, tempting the left-hander into a big drive.

Athanaze went hard at it, but the shot lacked control. The ball caught the outside edge and flew straight to KL Rahul at second slip, who moved smoothly to his left and took a sharp low catch. Athanaze’s knock of 12 off 24 balls ended at a crucial stage, leaving the West Indies in big trouble.

It was Siraj’s third wicket and India’s fourth wicket of the morning. Earlier, Jasprit Bumrah had removed opener John Campbell for just 8 runs. The tourists have lost four wickets for just 42 runs, with India dominating the morning session with the ball in Ahmedabad.

West Indies struggle to find form in India, Shubman Gill lost toss for 6th time

Notably, the West Indies have been struggling to build strong starts in India, as their openers failed to add 50 or more in their last 12 Test innings. The last time they managed to win a Test match against India was way back in May 2002—that’s 23 years ago and across 25 consecutive games.

On the other hand, India’s captain Shubman Gill seems to have bad luck with the toss. He has lost the toss in all six of his first tests as captain. Only New Zealand’s Bevan Congdon lost seven tosses in a row as captain, while Tom Latham also lost the toss in his first six matches.
