Mohammed Siraj had a moment to forget on Day 3 of the ongoing fifth and final Test between India and England at The Oval. In the 35th over of England’s chase, Prasidh Krishna bowled a short ball to Harry Brook.
The Englishman tried to pull it, but ended up top-edging the ball high in the air. Prasidh Krishna had already started celebrating, thinking it was a simple catch. Mohammed Siraj caught the catch cleanly at long leg, but then made a big mistake.

Just after completing the catch, Siraj took a step back and accidentally touched the boundary cushion with his foot. The joy turned into shock in the Indian camp as the umpire signaled for a six instead of a wicket.
Siraj couldn’t believe what had happened. He instantly covered his face in disbelief, knowing he had gifted Brook a lifeline. This costly mistake stunned Krishna and the Indian camp at The Oval.

Mohammed Siraj destroys Ollie Pope after chat with Morne Morkel
Meanwhile, Mohammed Siraj has been fighting hard at The Oval, and his efforts are finally showing results. On Day 4 of the final test, Siraj bowled five intense overs without a break. After that, he was seen having a calm conversation with India’s bowling coach, Morne Morkel, near the boundary.
After the discussion, Siraj came back refreshed and fired up. In his very next over, the fast bowler bowled two brilliant deliveries before delivering a magic ball to dismiss Ollie Pope. It was a sharp delivery that came in fast from a wide angle, surprising Pope completely.

The ball hit Pope’s pad right in front of the stumps, and replays showed it was crashing into middle and leg. Even though Pope reviewed the decision, the umpire’s call stood, and he was out for 27. Siraj had already dismissed Zak Crawley on Day 3 with a perfect yorker that shattered the stumps.
Mohammed Siraj becomes top wicket-taker in Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy
With this, Siraj now has 20 wickets in the ongoing five-match Test series in England. He has now the most wickets in the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy so far. His energy, consistency, and fire have made him the star of India’s bowling attack on the tour.
Notably, India has used just three bowlers so far—Mohammed Siraj, Akash Deep, and Prasidh Krishna—and they’ve all bowled almost the same number of overs. But now, with the ball getting older (38 overs old), spinners are expected to join the attack.
Harry Brook fires back with quick 50 to lift England’s chase against India
However, Indian captain Shubman Gill has opted to go ahead with the fast bowlers after the lunch break, and Harry Brook has already notched up his fifty. Brook reached his fifty in just 37 balls. This is now the joint-third fastest half-century by an England batter against India in Test cricket.
Interestingly, this is also Brook’s second-fastest Test fifty in terms of balls faced. His quickest remains a 37-ball fifty against New Zealand at Mount Maunganui in 2023. His aggressive innings helped England fight back strongly in their big chase against India on Day 4 at The Oval.
