A heartwarming bond between Deepak Chahar and MS Dhoni caught everyone’s attention ahead of the IPL 2025 clash between Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians on Sunday, April 20, at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
In a heartwarming moment that melted fans online, a hilarious yet playful scene unfolded during Chennai Super Kings’ training session at the Wankhede Stadium. Former CSK teammates MS Dhoni and Deepak Chahar, who are known for their close bond, turned the practice ground into a mini-comedy stage ahead of their IPL 2025 clash on Sunday in Mumbai.

He tried to poke Dhoni cheerfully during the pre-match net session, after which Dhoni marched towards him with the bat in an attempt to hit him playfully.

It all began with a light-hearted attempt from Chahar to tease Dhoni on the eve of the MI versus CSK match at the Wankhede Stadium. The Mumbai Indians pacer tried to poke Dhoni cheerfully when he was busy honing his batting for the Chennai Super Kings’ crucial game.
Well, what the joke was is not known, but it was enough to prompt the CSK captain to run after Chahar with the bat in an attempt to hit his former teammate playfully before both bursting into laughter all the way. Later, Chahar was seen showing the stands at the stadium to Dhoni.
The video of the hilarious moment between Dhoni and Chahar was shared by Chennai Super Kings on their official X handle, and now the clip is all over social media.

Notably, MS Dhoni and Deepak Chahar have shared a strong connection over the years. Even though they are now playing for different teams in the ongoing IPL 2025, their bond remains special. Chahar has always credited Dhoni for playing an important role in his cricketing journey.
While playing under Dhoni’s leadership at Chennai Super Kings, Chahar not only improved his skills but also made a name for himself in the IPL and earned a place in the Indian cricket team. From 2018 to 2024, Chahar was a key player for CSK. Last year, Deepak was released by CSK, and he was later picked by Mumbai Indians for INR 9.25 crore at the IPL 2025 mega auction.

MS Dhoni's record against the Mumbai Indians in the IPL
Dhoni has so far played 43 games against the Mumbai Indians in the IPL and has scored a total of 768 runs, including three half-centuries. In his most recent IPL game against MI at the Wankhede Stadium, Dhoni smashed three consecutive sixes off Hardik Pandya, helping CSK cross 200 runs. His thrilling finish played a big role in CSK’s 20-run victory over MI in that game.
Notably, Mumbai Indians spinner Karn Sharma had sustained a hand injury that required stitches, and now his availability for the important game against CSK remains uncertain. CSK had already replaced injured Gurjapneet Singh with Dewald Brevis for INR 2.2 crore.
