The buzz around MS Dhoni’s future in the Indian Premier League (IPL) grew stronger on Saturday, April 5, thanks to a short video clip featuring his wife, Sakshi Dhoni, and daughter Ziva that quickly went viral on social media after an IPL 2025 match.
The viral clip showed Sakshi Dhoni having a chat with Ziva during Chennai Super Kings’ IPL 2025 match against Delhi Capitals at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Saturday. In that particular moment, Sakshi can be seen telling Ziva that it was MS Dhoni’s “last match” as decided by the fans, and that was enough to send the internet into a frenzy.
MS Dhoni's retirement talks heat up after Sakshi's viral moment at Chepauk
This moment was caught during the second innings when CSK was chasing 184 runs to beat DC in the 17th game of the 2025 season, and soon went viral across social media platforms. Many fans have been wondering if MS Dhoni was playing his final IPL game or his last match at Chepauk.

However, there has been no official word from MS Dhoni or the Chennai Super Kings about the legendary cricketer’s retirement, but the presence of his parents, Pan Singh and Devaki Devi, in the stands added to the retirement speculation.
It was the first time MS Dhoni’s parents had come to the stadium to watch him play live for CSK at the stadium, making the occasion even more emotional.

If this really was Dhoni’s final match at Chepauk, it didn’t end on a happy note. Chennai Super Kings lost the match by 25 runs to Delhi Capitals, making it their third defeat in a row in the ongoing IPL 2025.
Chasing 184, CSK never gained momentum after a slow start against the DC. Dhoni tried to fight back with an unbeaten 30 from 26 balls, but it wasn’t enough to turn things around.
CSK shuts down the buzz with a meme post after Sakshi Dhoni's viral “Last Match” clip
Meanwhile, CSK quietly tried to calm things down as the buzz about Dhoni’s retirement kept growing. They shared a meme on X from a Tamil movie scene, where a character tells an excited crowd to stop arguing and move on.
The post had the caption “no context,” keeping things mysterious with the team’s usual fun and meme-style way of sharing messages.

After losing three games in a row, CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad admitted that the side seemed “over concerned or tentative” about their performance in the first six overs this season. With this loss, Chennai slipped to the ninth spot in the IPL 2025 points table.

We’re trying, but it’s just not happening: Ruturaj Gaikwad on CSK's third loss in a row in the IPL 2025
Ruturaj Gaikwad said at the post-match presentation, “Not today, since the last three games, it’s not really going our way. We’re trying our level best in all three departments. I think Powerplay is definitely a concern for us in the batting and bowling departments.
We’ve spotted that since the second game. We’re trying, but it’s just not happening. I just think that we are overconcerned or tentative about who’s coming on to bowl in the powerplay… we’re losing a wicket in the first or second over. We’re just overly concerned about things in the Powerplay.”
