Mumbai Indians (MI) handed a debut cap to Afghanistan National Cricket Team spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman in the ongoing game against Gujarat Titans (GT). The match between the two teams is taking place at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Saturday (29th March).
Mujeeb Ur Rahman, who has been one of the finest spinners in world cricket, was handed the MI debut cap by India National Cricket Team skipper Rohit Sharma. The senior batter was seen sharing words of encouragement for the spinner before hugging him and handing him his cap.

Mujeeb, however, didn't have a kind of start to his debut for Mumbai Indians as he would've wanted. The Afghanistan National Cricket Team spinner was taken to the cleaners by the Gujarat Titans openers Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill.
Mujeeb was asked to bowl the fifth over of the innings and he was hit for four and a six on the first two balls. The 5th ball of his innings also went for a four as the Afghanistan National Cricket Team spinner ended up giving 15 runs in the first over he bowled.

Mujeeb originally wasn't part of the Mumbai Indians squad for the IPL 2025. The mystery spinner was roped in as a replacement after Allah Ghazanfar was ruled out of the league with the injury. He joined the franchise at INR 2 crore.
The ongoing game against Gujarat Titans is his first game in the IPL after 2021, where he played for Sunrisers Hyderabad. The mystery spinner made his debut for Punjab Kings in 2018 and played for the franchise for three seasons before representing Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Overall, Mujeeb Ur Rahman has been fantastic in the T20 cricket. The spinner has picked 275 T20 wickets at an average of 23.67 and an economy rate of 6.75. With the kind of impact he has made, he will be key for Mumbai Indians in the league.
In the IPL so far, Mujeeb Ur Rahman has played 20 games and has taken 20 wickets at an economy of over 8. He would be keen to improve his record this year and help Mumbai Indians win their 6th title in the league.
Coming to the ongoing game, Mumbai Indians restricted Gujarat Titans to the 196 for 8. They had a poor start with the ball as Shubman Gill (63) and Sai Sudharsan (63) added 78 runs for opening wicket. Jos Buttler played a vital innings of 39 runs but apart from them no one could make big impact.
