Pace bowler Mukesh Kumar bowled an excellent delivery to clean up Shams Mulani in the Irani Cup 2024 match between Mumbai and the Rest of India. Mukesh Kumar removed in-form batter Shams Mulani on the second day of the match at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Wednesday, October 2.

Ruturaj Gaikwad, captaining the Rest of India team, won the toss and chose to field first. The decision proved successful, as their bowlers dominated early in the match. Mukesh led the bowling attack with a remarkable opening spell, putting Mumbai on the back foot on the opening day of the game.

On Day 2, Mukesh Kumar dismissed Shams Mulani with a brilliant delivery on the final ball of the 81st over. Mukesh bowled a good length delivery that moved away late and hit the top of the off stump. The left-handed batter defended with his bat at the middle stump line but failed to make contact with the ball.

Mulani had to depart after scoring just 5 runs off 14 deliveries in the first innings. The Mumbai team, led by Ajinkya Rahane, lost their sixth wicket for 280 runs on the board. It was Mukesh's fourth wicket of the Mumbai innings.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) domestic's official handle shared the video of Mulani's dismissal on X (formerly Twitter)."Beauty 👌 Mukesh Kumar picks up his 4th wicket as he cleans up Shams Mulani with a cracker 🙌 Two wickets in quick succession for Rest of India," wrote the caption.

Mukesh Kumar Picked Three Wickets In First Session On Day 1

Mukesh had an impressive outing in the Duleep Trophy 2024, where he finished as the leading wicket-taker. The right-arm pacer can swing the new ball in both directions, which posed challenges for the Mumbai batters. He dismissed Prithvi Shaw, who scored just four runs off seven balls.

Mukesh then dismissed wicketkeeper-batter Hardik Tamore for a duck. He picked up his third wicket by removing Ayush Mhatre, who scored 19 off 35 balls with three boundaries. The Mumbai team lost three wickets for 37 before a match-rescue partnership between Ajinky Rahane and Shreyas Iyer.

Speaking at the toss, Ajinky Rahane acknowledged that the toss was out of their control and emphasized the importance of performing well in every session. Rahane said that he had spent two and a half months playing county cricket, which helped him gain valuable experience.

"We were looking to bat. Toss you can't control as a captain. You need to do well every session in day's cricket. We are ready. I spent two and a half months playing county cricket. Got some game time under my belt. Preparation-wise, everyone is ready," Rahane said.
