Nehal Wadhera Anchors PBKS Chase After Top-Order Collapse
Punjab Kings faced a shaky start while chasing a modest 96-run target against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Prabhsimran Singh showed early intent with back-to-back boundaries off Bhuvneshwar Kumar before being dismissed for 13. Priyansh Arya (16) gifted an easy catch off Josh Hazlewood.
Hazlewood then removed captain Shreyas Iyer (7), who edged one to the keeper, and Josh Inglis (14), who was caught at deep third man, in a single over.
However, Wadhera turned things around with his unbeaten knock of 33 off 19 balls. Marcus Stoinis (7*) completed the chase by lofting Yash Dayal for a six, sealing the five-wicket win with 11 balls remaining.
The Way Nehal Wadhera Batted Was Commendable - Harpreet Brar
Speaking at the post-match press conference, Harpreet Brar shed light on Punjab Kings' decision to bowl first. He noted that both seamers and spinners benefited from the conditions. Brar emphasized that batting wasn’t easy on the surface and went on to praise Wadhera for his innings.
"No one had seen the wickets before. When the covers were lifted, our coaches were so experienced that they knew that the bowlers would get help from the surface," Brar said.
"After we won the toss, our seamers and spinners took help from the wicket. Yuzvendra Chahal bowled well, and I also took two wickets. It was not easy to bat on this surface. 95 was a good total on the surface. The way Nehal Wadhera batted was commendable. He stuck to the end and won the game for us," he said.
