Pakistan batter Nashra Sandhu was dismissed hit-wicket as she knocked off the bails with her bat in an attempt to leave the delivery from Bangladesh spinner Shorna Akter, which spun sharply.

The Women's ICC World Cup has begun, with India being the official host of the competition after almost a decade, while Sri Lanka co-hosts the event for the first time. The ICC event began on the 30th of September with the two host nations taking on each other in the first game.

Watch: Nashra Sandhu castles her own wickets in World Cup match

Nashra Sandhu, the experienced hat, who picked up 100 wickets recently and went on to be part of the controversial gestures, was dismissed ridiculously. The Pakistan batters had already struggled in the game when she came to bat alongside Diana Baig as Pakistan's no. 9.

Bangladesh spinner Shorna Akter was one of the most successful bowlers for them, as she picked 3 wickets, giving away just 5 runs in her short yet eventful spell of 3.3 overs. The first three overs were all wicket maidens.

A ball that spun sharply away from the right-handed Sandhu was attempted to be played on the back foot. The ball spun sharply away from the stumps; however, the batter's bat went to crash onto the stumps.

Pakistan Women face a humiliating defeat to Bangladesh on their World Cup opener

As Pakistan skipper Fatima Sana won the toss, she opted to bat first against Bangladesh in their opening match of the ICC Women's World Cup 2025. Openers Omaima Sohail and Sidra Amin, one of the most successful batters for the team, were dismissed in the very first over for golden ducks off Marufa Akter's bowling.

Though Muneeba Ali and Rameen Shamim put forward a partnership that helped them revive the innings, it was short-lived as Nahida Akter picked the wickets midway. Shorna Akter cleaned up the Pakistan tail, hence limiting them to just 129 runs.

Rameen Shamim and skipper Fatima Sana were the pick of the batters with 23 and 22 runs respectively. Pakistani women were bowled out within 39 overs of the innings.

Rubya Haider leads the way as Bangladesh win over Pakistan in an epic clash

As the Bangladesh Women took the field to chase a modest total of 130, the opener Rubya Halder held his stance and went on to add semblance to the chase. As Fargana Hoque was dismissed after a slow start, Bangladesh too looked in some trouble until experienced skipper Nigar Sultana built a promising partnership.

After Sultana's dismissal, the opener went on to build another crucial partnership with Sobhana Mostary and finished the modest chase within 31 overs of the game.
