Team India is ruling the one-off Test against Afghanistan at the Maharaja Singh PCA Stadium in New Chandigarh with two centurions in the match already.

Afghanistan fell into more trouble when the experienced pacer Prasidh Krishna bamboozled the Afghan opener and one of the proven talents of the Afghanistan playing eleven, Sediqullah Atal, inside the ninth over of Afghanistan’s first innings in the Test.

Prasidh Krishna shattered the stumps of Sediqullah Atal

Atal departed only for 17 runs after the dismissal of Abdul Malik, the other half of the opening pair. It is Prasidh Krishna’s first Test wicket in India. The pacer kept the ball on good length, which nipped back from the outside of the off stump.

Prasidh Krishna claims most of his wickets in away games

The batter tried to counter the delivery across the line, but the ball edged past the inside edge and lashed onto the stumps. The stumps went for a cartwheel. The batter had a long look at the pitch before heading back towards the dug-out.

Ahead of the India vs Afghanistan on-off Test, Prasidh Krishan had 22 wickets from 6 games, all of the wickets he claimed under overseas conditions. It is for the first time that the 30-year-old gets a Test wicket on home soil.

List of Test wickets taken by Prasidh Krishan, including the wicket of Atal:

  • 26 Dec 2023 — South Africa, Centurion — 1 wicket

Team India in the front seat against Afghanistan in New Chandigarh

Shubman Gill-led Team India is in the front seat against the Afghanistan cricket team in the only Test in the bilateral series. Winning the toss, Gill elected to bat first. With the centuries from the skipper and KL Rahul, and a couple of 81-run knocks by Sai Sudharsan and Rishabh Pant, the home team scored 564 runs against 8 wickets before declaring the innings. Washington Sundar remained unbeaten after completing his half-century.

Afghanistan goes quickly under pressure because of India's massive total in the first innings. The visitors hit the rock in their innings first when the debutant Manav Suthar dismissed Abdul Malik. The second dismissal was added to Prasidh Krishna's account soon after the departure of Malik.
