Watch: Prithvi Shaw's Magnificent Double-Century Against Puducherry In Vijay Hazare Trophy 2021

Mumbai captain Prithvi Shaw shattered records in his team’s match against Puducherry in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy 2021, by scoring a majestic 227*. Thanks to his record-breaking score, Mumbai managed to put up 457/4 in 50 overs batting first after losing the toss.

The match was played at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur, and saw Mumbai decimate Puducherry despite the opposition getting an early wicket in form of Yashasvi Jaiswal for 10 runs. Then Prithvi Shaw and Aditya Tare added 153 runs for the second wicket in 23 odd overs. Tare then fell for 56 runs in 64 balls with 7 fours to his name.

Though Puducherry had sighed a breath of relief, it was not to be as Suryakumar Yadav walked in to join Prithvi Shaw, who was already dominating the opposition bowlers. He had reached his half-century in just 27 balls and his century in just 65 balls. When Tare’s wicket fell, Shaw had passed 150 runs in just 104 balls.

But that’s when Suryakumar took over the bludgeoning the bowler role as he raced to his 50 in 27 balls and soon made his century in just 50 balls. Before that, Prithvi Shaw became the 7^th Indian to score a double-century in List-A cricket. He brought up his milestone in 142 balls.

It was an innings of pure bliss and an excellent exhibition of hand-eye co-ordination batting. Shaw took advantage of less experienced Puducherry bowlers as he remained unbeaten on 227 in 152 balls with 31 fours and 5 sixes to his name. His strike-rate was 149.34.

Meanwhile, Suryakumar slammed 133 in just 58 balls with 4 sixes and 22 fours before getting out. At the end of 50 overs, Mumbai had posted 457/4 in 50 overs. In reply, Puducherry managed 224 runs with Prashant Solanki taking 5/48 and won the match by 233 runs.

However, the hero of the match remained the Mumbai captain Prithvi Shaw, who hit the highest score by a captain in a List-A match, beating Graeme Pollock’s 222* against Border in 1974. He also beat Sanju Samson’s record of 212*, as the highest one-day individual score in Indian domestic cricket and it was the 3^rd highest individual score by an Indian in all List-A after Rohit Sharma’s 264 and Shikhar Dhawan’s 248.
