The incident took place during the second over of the Punjab Kings innings. Rajasthan Royals pacer Nandre Burger delivered the ball, and Priyansh Arya smashed a powerful six that struck a spectator on the face, causing immediate panic in the stands.
With modern bats becoming broader and boundaries relatively shorter, such high-intensity matches carry risks for spectators. After the impact, the injured fan began bleeding heavily, with blood visible on his shirt as nearby spectators rushed to help.
People at the scene cleaned the wound before medical staff transported him to a local hospital in Mullanpur for treatment. Priyansh Arya played a quick knock of 29 runs off just 11 balls before Jofra Archer dismissed him in the third over.
Prabhsimran Singh and Marcus Stoinis Shine for Punjab Kings
Punjab Kings posted a massive total of 222 runs after Rajasthan Royals captain Riyan Parag elected to field first. Prabhsimran Singh anchored the innings with a composed 59 off 44 deliveries, striking six boundaries and providing stability at the top.
Marcus Stoinis delivered a stunning finish during the death overs, smashing an unbeaten 62 off just 22 balls. The all-rounder cleared the ropes six times, completely shifting the momentum and pushing Punjab Kings to a challenging total.
Despite setting a mammoth target, the Punjab Kings suffered their first defeat of the season. However, they continue to lead the IPL points table with 13 points from six wins. Punjab Kings will now travel to face Gujarat Titans (GT) in their next match scheduled for May 3.
Donovan Ferreira Guides Rajasthan Royals Toward Victory
Chasing a daunting target, Rajasthan Royals got a flying start from Yashasvi Jaiswal and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. Sooryavanshi smashed 43 runs off just 16 balls, while Jaiswal scored a brilliant 51 off 27 deliveries, laying a strong foundation for the chase.
After middle-order wickets fell to Yuzvendra Chahal, Ferreira took control and steadied the innings. He built a crucial 77-run partnership with Shubham Dubey, who remained unbeaten on 31 from 12 balls during the tense final overs.
Ferreira stayed unbeaten on 52 off 26 deliveries and earned the Player of the Match award for his finishing effort. His knock guided Rajasthan Royals to their sixth win of the season and lifted them to third place in the points table.
