Rishabh Pant's Old Remarks Go Viral After Lucknow's Defeat
Before the IPL 2025 season, Rishabh Pant admitted that his biggest concern during the auction was whether Punjab Kings would bid for him. Pant stated that PBKS, who had the largest purse, might successfully acquire him.
"I only had one tension, that was Punjab (laughs). They had the highest purse. When Shreyas went to Punjab, I felt I could make it to LSG. There was a possibility. But eventually, with auction, you never know, so I just thought I would wait and watch, and had my fingers crossed,” Pant told Star Sports before the season.
Punjab Kings entered the IPL 2025 auction with the highest available budget of ₹110.5 crore. They decided to sign Shreyas Iyer for ₹26.75 crore. Meanwhile, Lucknow Super Giants went all out to secure Pant, making a record-breaking bid of ₹27 crore, the highest-ever signing in IPL auction history.
Punjab Kings Climb to Second Spot in Points Table
Punjab Kings chased down the 172-run target with ease. Prabhsimran Singh smashed 69 runs off 34 balls, hitting nine boundaries and three sixes. Captain Shreyas Iyer anchored the innings with an unbeaten 52 off 30 deliveries, including three fours and four sixes. They wrapped up the chase in just 16.2 overs.
Earlier, the Super Giants collapsed to 39/3 within the first six overs. Rishabh Pant scored two runs before being dismissed by Glenn Maxwell. Nicholas Pooran (44 off 30) and Ayush Badoni (41 off 33) chipped in with crucial knocks. Arshdeep Singh was the pick of the bowlers for Punjab, finishing with figures of 3/43.
Punjab Kings will next play their first home fixture of the season. They will face the Rajasthan Royals (RR) at Mullanpur on April 5. Meanwhile, Lucknow Super Giants will look to recover from their defeat when they face Mumbai Indians on April 4.
