The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) all-rounder Ramandeep Singh grabbed an absolute screamer to dismiss the Punjab Kings (PBKS) captain Shreyas Iyer on Tuesday, April 15.

Shreyas Iyer failed to perform with the bat against his old franchise Kolkata Knight Riders in the 31st match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur.

Shreyas Iyer falls for a 2-ball duck

Iyer led the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to the Indian Premier League title after a decade in the 2024 season of the competition. However, he was not retained by KKR as the franchise and the player couldn't reach a mutual agreement.

Shreyas Iyer entered the auction, and Punjab Kings broke their bank to acquire his services for a whopping INR 26.75 crore, making him the second most expensive player in IPL history.

He was subsequently named the new captain of the Punjab Kings and the battle of his team against his old team was hyped a lot by broadcasters ahead of the PBKS vs KKR clash in IPL 2025.

PBKS would have been hoping for Shreyas Iyer to set the stage on fire against KKR, but he was not able to do that. He walked in the middle after Harshit Rana dismissed the in-form opener, Priyansh Arya, on the second ball of the 4th over.

Iyer started off his innings with a dot, but he went for a wild shot on the next ball. Harshit Rana bowled an outside off-stump delivery to Iyer, who looked to smash it over covers for a boundary.

However, he only managed to slice it off the thick outside half of the bat really flat and Ramandeep Singh grabbed an amazing catch at deep backward point by putting in a full-length dive to send Iyer packing for a 2-ball duck. After Shreyas Iyer's dismissal, KKR players were elated and they celebrated wildly.

Shreyas, we all know how confident he is - Ramandeep Singh

Speaking ahead of the match, Ramandeep Singh talked about the difference between the captaincy of Ajinkya Rahane and Shreyas Iyer. He also spoke about Gautam Gambhir being replaced as KKR mentor by Dwayne Bravo. He elaborated:

"We do miss an individual like Gautam Gambir and the things he brought to the team. But now we have a coach like DJ Bravo, who brings the same champion mindset in the team. And if we talk about Shreya and Ajinkya, both have been wonderful captains.

"While Ajinkya brings a lot of calmness in the dug out and every youngster idolizes him, he has led with his form too this season. And Shreyas, we all know how confident he is and gets the plan executed from the team. Both are different but bring a lot on the table for each team."

The KKR all-rounder further said that he has been given the role of a finisher by the team management and he backs himself to win matches for the team. He elaborated:

“KKR have given me the role to come in at 5,6 or 7 and do what the situation demands and to make the team win. We learn from every situation and it helps us to analyse our game too. My target is to make myself as a match winner for the team and I try to be fearless in my approach right from the first ball of my innings whether the ball is in my area or not. After the 15th over, whatever the situation is, I back myself. And the same goes for every one of us."
