Rashid Khan Takes 2 Wickets for 26 Runs in 4 Overs
Bangladesh elected to bat first in their must-win match at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium. Openers Tanzid Hasan and Saif Hassan gave them a flying start, adding 63 runs for the first wicket in 6.4 overs. Tanzid scored 52 from 31 balls with four boundaries and three sixes, while Saif scored 30 off 28 balls.
However, Afghanistan’s bowlers pulled the game back after the power play. Rashid Khan broke the opening stand by dismissing Saif. He later removed Shamim Hossain. Rashid finished with impressive figures of 2 for 26 in his four overs.
Noor Ahmad also chipped in with two wickets, and Azmatullah Omarzai picked up one wicket for 19 runs. Their disciplined bowling halted Bangladesh’s momentum after their flying start and kept the batters from freeing up their arms.
We Played Some Irresponsible Shots - Rashid Khan
Rashid Khan said his team failed to play their natural attacking game and instead let pressure build. He criticized the batting unit for playing careless shots at crucial moments. He added that the defeat provided important lessons for Afghanistan ahead of the final group match.
"We were in the game till the end but couldn't finish it off. 30 off 18 balls was very gettable. We haven't played the type of cricket we are famous for - attacking cricket. We let a lot of pressure build on ourselves," Khan said.
"The way we came back with the ball to restrict them under 160 was special, but with the batting we played some irresponsible shots. In T20 sometimes the opposition take the game away in the first six overs, but then you have to come back. Lots of learning for us from this game."
