Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja received a warning from the on-field umpire for running down on the pitch on Day 2 of the ongoing second Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy against England at Edgbaston. The incident happened in the 86th over of India’s first innings on July 3.
England seamer Chris Woakes bowled a 128 km/h delivery on a good length outside off stump. Jadeja tapped it gently into the off-side, but the Indian captain, Shubman Gill, refused to run for a single, asking the seasoned all-rounder to take back his crease.
Ravindra Jadeja warned for running too close to the pitch in the Edgbaston Test
Before the next delivery was bowled by Woakes, the on-field umpire Sharfuddoula, approached Jadeja and asked him to be careful while running between the wickets. Actually, the Indian all-rounder had come too close to the danger area on the pitch after playing a shot on the previous delivery at the Edgbaston Stadium in Birmingham.
This area is protected to avoid damage to the playing surface, especially for bowlers later in the game. However, Jadeja escaped from the penalty, but the umpire Sharfuddoula gave a gentle warning to the Indian left-arm spinner to avoid doing it again.
Also, ahead of the start of the 90th over, England skipper Ben Stokes was engaged in a heated chat with Ravindra Jadeja over the India all-rounder running on the pitch.

Chris Woakes and Ben Stokes fume as Ravindra Jadeja enters danger zone again
Well, the drama did not end there, as Chris Woakes and Ben Stokes lost their cool over Ravindra Jadeja once again running into the danger area of the pitch. Woakes, who was visibly angry, stared at the Indian all-rounder after he completed a run and appeared to step too close to the protected zone.
However, Jadeja defended himself by pointing out that he had kept to one side and hadn’t touched the main strip. But things heated up further when England captain Ben Stokes marched straight to the spot while expressing his frustration with Jadeja’s footwork and stood there in protest.

Concern for India as Physio called twice for Ravindra Jadeja
Meanwhile, the Indian team held their breath for a moment as Ravindra Jadeja was almost hit on his pads in the 88th over. Ben Stokes bowled a fast-length delivery around off stump and screamed as he nearly hit Jadeja’s pads. However, the Indian all-rounder got an inside edge onto his pad, and the ball rolled towards mid-wicket as he and Shubman Gill quickly got a single.
As soon as Stokes completed the over, the team physio came to check Jadeja. While having a drink, the star cricketer has a brief discussion, leaving the Indian camp concerned. The physio spent a few minutes checking on Jadeja, but he looked fine and ready to carry on.
Well, Jadeja had another short physio check-up during the innings, likely for the blow he took to his finger in the very first over. As the physio checked him, Jadeja took a sip of pickle juice, which is often used to prevent cramps, but everything looks fine as he is still fighting for India.
Notably, Jadeja had completed his fifty, and he had already stitched a 138* run partnership with Gill for the sixth wicket as India marched towards another big total in the ongoing five-match Test series against England. While Gill is batting at 136*, Jadeja looks solid on 61* at Edgbaston on Day 2.
