Ravindra Jadeja introduced in the 58th over on Day 3

England started Day 3 with a total of 209 runs on the board at the loss of three wickets and with Ollie Pope (100*) and Harry Brook (0*) unbeaten in the middle.

Pope and Brook looked good together in the middle, but the former fell in the 52nd over while playing a poor shot, finishing with 106 runs off 137 balls, with 14 fours.

On the first ball of the over, Prasidh Krishna bowled a nothing delivery outside off-stump and Ollie Pope edged it behind, with Rishabh Pant taking an easy catch. After Pope walked back to resounding applause, England skipper Ben Stokes walked out in the middle.

Stokes started off his innings cautiously against India before being involved in a collision with all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja. The incident unfolded in the 58th over when the all-rounder was brought in to bowl his spin for the first time on Day 3, with one slip and a catching cover.

Ravindra Jadeja, who had the figures of 9.0-2-25-0 on Day 2, bowled a flat delivery to Harry Brook on off-stump, who nudged it towards mid-on for a quick single.

As Ben Stokes started running from the non-striker's end, Ravindra Jadeja went towards his right in order to stop the ball, and he collided with Ben Stokes. Thankfully, the collision was not an ugly one, and the players were totally safe with nothing major happening.

India still have upper hand - Ravi Shastri

Former India National Cricket Team head coach, Ravi Shastri, speaking to Sky Sports Cricket, ahead of the start of the play on Day 3, delivered his verdict on the situation of the match.

He said that the visiting team would be disappointed not to add 75-80 more runs to their total in the first innings despite centuries from Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Rishabh Pant.

Ravi Shastri added that Team India still have the upper hand in the match and Jasprit Bumrah's early wickets on the third day can turn the match totally in the visitors' favour. He said:

"I think India will be disappointed that they didn't add another 75 or 80 runs but towards the end of day two, getting Root out, has evened things.

"I think they still have the upper hand. They have the runs on the board and you know what Bumrah can do.

"He can crack this game open in the first hour or so. If he can get a couple of wickets, India will think they can get a lead.
