England Bowled Out for 669 After Centuries from Joe Root and Ben Stokes

England scored 669 in their first innings, taking a 311-run lead over India. Joe Root and captain Ben Stokes struck centuries to keep India on the back foot throughout the innings.

Openers Zak Crawley (84) and Ben Duckett (94) gave England a solid start. Ollie Pope (71) and Joe Root then continued the momentum. Root reached his 38th Test hundred, scoring 150 runs off 248 deliveries with 14 fours. Stokes added 141 runs off 198 balls, including 11 boundaries and 3 sixes.

The Indian bowlers struggled to contain the flow of runs. Ravindra Jadeja was one of four bowlers to concede over 100 runs. Washington Sundar and Jasprit Bumrah chipped in with two wickets each, but England’s dominance with the bat left India trailing by a huge margin.

Shubman Gill and KL Rahul Lead India’s Fightback on Day 4

India’s hopes of saving the match were kept alive by an unbeaten 174-run stand between Shubman Gill and KL Rahul. The duo steadied the innings after a disastrous start, where openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sai Sudharsan were both dismissed for ducks in the very first over by Chris Woakes.

With India in deep trouble, Gill and Rahul showed remarkable composure to guide the team to 174/2 at stumps, still trailing England by 137 runs. Rahul scored an unbeaten 87 off 210 balls, including eight boundaries, while Gill added an unbeaten 78 from 167 deliveries, including 10 fours.

Their partnership not only helped India recover from early setbacks but also kept the possibility of a draw alive going into the final day. The stand has drawn comparisons to the iconic 376-run partnership between Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman against Australia in 2001.
