Watch: 'Referee peeche pade hain...' - Harmanpreet Kaur's hilarious revelation after stupendous WPL 2024 knock

Mumbai Indians (MI) women skipper Harmanpreet Kaur made a hilarious revelation after her match-winning innings against Gujarat Giants in the Women Premier League (WPL) 2024. She stated that match referees are after her and checking her bat. 

Harmanpreet Kaur played one of the best innings in the history of the WPL. The MI skipper snatched the victory for her side from the jaws of defeat. Her sensational effort with the bat saw her team becoming the first team in the season to qualify for the playoffs. 

Harmanpreet Kaur activated her beast mode when Mumbai Indians women needed around 90 runs in the last overs. The captain did the carnage of the opposition bowlers smashed them all over the park and hit big sixes, entertaining the crowd. 

Harmanpreet Kaur’s best came in the 18th over when she hit 24 runs off Sneh Rana. The batter did an unachievable thing and guided her team to the famous victory. She timed almost every ball to perfection and hardly put a wrong in her innings, making the crowd go berserk. 

Harmanpreet Kaur ended with the knock of unbeaten 95 runs off just 48 deliveries. She had a strike rate of around 200 and her knock was laced with 10 fours and five towering sixes. Her innings made sure, Mumbai chased the big target of 191 runs with 7 wickets. What was impressive was she scored her last 75 runs off just 27 balls.

After the game, Harmanpreet Kaur was talking to broadcasters and revealed that she used her practice bat as she was glad that it paid off. She stated: 

“When we were practising, I was using this bat (the one she played with), my match bat was different. But my grip was a bit loose with the latter. Then, I thought I should use my practice bat only.” 

The broadcasters then hilariously commented that she would take Harmanpreet Kaur’s practice bat. Replying to this, the Mumbai Indians skipper stated that match referees were already behind her bat as if she had put something in it. She added: 

“Arey vo match referee mere peeche hi pade hue hain, bat check kar rahe hain, jaise pata nahi kya daala hai bat me! (The match referee is checking my bat, as if I’ve put something in it!”

Was thinking about staying there and looked for a big innings – Harmanpreet Kaur 

Harmanpreet Kaur talked about her innings and highlighted the importance of the game for them. She revealed her mindset, stating that she was thinking about staying there and was looking for a big innings. Speaking after the game, she stated: 

“It was a very big game for us, we had to win so that we wouldn’t put any pressure on us (going forward). We knew we had a long batting order and we could get the job done. Definitely have an eye on finishing first to get into the final directly. Had a chat with Himanshu bhaiya about my batting and how I can improve, was thinking about staying there and looked for a big innings,” she concluded.
