17-year-old Farhan Ahmed made history during a Vitality Blast match between Nottinghamshire and Lancashire. The younger brother of England spinner Rehan Ahmed became the first Nottinghamshire player to claim a hat-trick in T20s and also picked up five wickets, guiding his team to a four-wicket win.
Farhan Ahmed, who featured in the 2024 U19 World Cup, became Nottinghamshire’s youngest-ever first-class player last year. On debut, he impressed with a seven-wicket haul, finishing with figures of 7 for 140. He became the youngest player in British first-class cricket history to claim ten wickets in a match.
Lancashire Collapse After Flying Start by Openers
Opting to bat first, Lancashire openers Phil Salt and captain Keaton Jennings added a 38-run opening partnership. However, they lost momentum when Farhan Ahmed dismissed Jennings, triggering a top-order collapse.
Lancashire had slumped to 53 for 5 by the eighth over. Nottinghamshire’s spinners, including Farhan and Liam Patterson-White, maintained pressure on the batsmen, and the middle order failed to offer much resistance.
Matty Hurst and Chris Green stitched together a 63-run stand for the sixth wicket. Hurst scored 36, while Green added 29. However, Hurst was run out by Olly Stone in the 17th over, leaving Lancashire at 123 for 7 heading into the final over.

Farhan Ahmed delivered a sensational final over to cap off a brilliant spell with his maiden five-wicket haul in T20 cricket. Having already dismissed Chris Green earlier in the innings, the young spinner returned to dismantle Lancashire’s tail.
On the fourth ball of the final over, Farhan removed Luke Wood. He then struck on the next two deliveries, taking the wickets of Tom Aspinwall and Mitchell Stanley to complete a stunning hat-trick. He helped bowl out Lancashire for just 126.
Vitality Blast took to their social media account X (formerly known as Twitter) to share the clip with the caption, "FARHAN AHMED HAS A VITALITY BLAST HAT-TRICK AT 17 YEARS OLD!!!!! 😱 "

Disastrous Start for Nottinghamshire in Run Chase
Nottinghamshire’s run chase got off to a disastrous start as they slumped to 14 for 4 within the first three overs. Joe Clarke perished in the opening over to Luke Wood, and Tom Hartley caused further damage by removing Sam Seecharan and Matthew Montgomery in quick succession.
Jack Haynes also fell to Wood, leaving the batting side in deep trouble. Tom Moores turned the game in his team’s favor with an explosive knock. Moores made full use of the powerplay and brought up his fifty in just 23 balls. He and Lyndon James stitched a crucial 81-run stand for the fifth wicket.
Moores and Daniel Sams added 31 runs, bringing the side close to victory. Moores was eventually run out for 75 off 42 balls, including seven boundaries and four sixes. Sams finished the job in the 16th over, sealing a four-wicket win with 28 balls to spare.
However, the win wasn’t enough to take Nottinghamshire into the quarter-finals due to their poor net run rate. They missed out on the knockout stage for the third time in four seasons. Lancashire, on the other hand, had already qualified for the knockout stage.
