Renuka Singh, on Sunday (October 5), gave India a flying start with the ball in the crucial game against Pakistan in the ongoing ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2024.
Pakistan captain Fatima Sana won the toss and opted to bat first. Renuka Singh opened the bowling for India and the onus was her on to give the team a good start. And the right-arm pacer did not disappoint. She struck in the very first over of the game to give the Harmanpreet Kaur-led side the start it was expecting.
On the final ball of the first over, Renuka Singh clean bowled Pakistan opener Gull Feroza for a four-ball duck. It was a length delivery from the Indian pace spearhead that swung in at the last moment. Feroza could not pick the line of the ball and failed to make any contact with the ball. The ball passed through the big gap between the pad and bat before hitting the off stump.

India are eyeing their first win of the competition after losing their tournament opener. On the other hand, Pakistan began their campaign with a clinical victory and are eyeing their second win in as many games. At present, India are languishing at the bottom of the points table in Group A while Pakistan are in the third spot.
India's campaign began with a dismal defeat against New Zealand. New Zealand thoroughly outplayed India and inflicted a heavy 58-run loss. Batting first, New Zealand posted a competitive total of 160/4 in 20 overs. Captain Sophie Devine top-scored for her team, scoring an unbeaten 57 off 36 balls. For India, Renuka Singh was the pick of the bowlers, taking 2 for 27.
With the bat, India came up with a disastrous display and were all out for just 102 runs in 19 overs. Not a single batter could even reach the 20-run mark with the bat. Harmanpreet was the top-scorer for her side, scoring 15. For New Zealand Rosemary Mair took 4 wickets while Lea Tahuhu took 3 wickets.
Pakistan, on the other hand, thrashed Sri Lanka by 31 runs. While they were all out for just 116 runs, their bowlers came up with a brilliant display and restricted Sri Lanka to 85/9.
