Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) owner Sanjiv Goenka was seen having an intense conversation with Rishabh Pant right after the team’s surprising loss to Delhi Capitals in IPL 2025. The animated chat quickly went viral on social media, as fans were reminded of a similar moment from the previous season.
Lucknow Super Giants suffered a shocking defeat against Delhi Capitals in the fourth match of IPL 2025 at the ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam on Monday, March 24. LSG were in a commanding position but lost their grip on the game, which allowed the Capitals to make an incredible comeback.

After the defeat, Sanjiv Goenka spoke with Rishabh Pant and coach Justin Langer. Notably, Goenka had a tense exchange with then-captain KL Rahul after a crushing defeat to SRH in 2024. That confrontation was speculated to be one of the reasons Rahul later parted ways with the franchise.
LSG signed Pant for a record-breaking ₹27 crore at the mega auction. He became the most expensive player in IPL history. Pant had a disappointing debut as a batter and captain. He was dismissed for a six-ball duck in a match where over 420 runs were scored and five batters had strike rates above 200.

Rishabh Pant's Captaincy Under Scrutiny for Bowling Changes
LSG’s bowling strategy raised eyebrows. Shardul Thakur was the most experienced bowler in the squad and took two wickets in his first over. However, he wasn’t given a chance to bowl another over. Rishabh Pant handed the ball to the inexperienced Prince Yadav when DC needed 22 from the last two overs.
Yadav conceded 16 runs, including two fours and a six, which shifted the momentum in DC’s favor. Pant backed spinner Shahbaz Ahmed for the final over. LSG still had a chance when Shahbaz produced a brilliant delivery that beat DC’s No. 11, Mohit Sharma. However, Pant failed to collect the ball cleanly.
Luck Definitely Plays a Part in the Game - Rishabh Pant
Rishabh Pant admitted that luck played a role in the game. He pointed out that there was a chance to complete the stumping had the ball not deflected off Mohit’s pads. However, Pant added that such moments are a part of cricket.
"Definitely luck plays a part in this game and if it could have missed his (Mohit Sharma's) pads, it was a chance for stumping. But these things happen in the game of cricket, you can't focus on these things, but rather you need to play better cricket," Pant stated during the post-match presentation.
The Super Giants are currently in seventh place in the 10-team points table, above Mumbai Indians (MI), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), and Rajasthan Royals (RR). They will take on Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in their next match at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on March 27.
