Lucknow Super Giants captain and wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant was involved in the DRS drama in the ongoing 21st IPL 2025 clash against the Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Tuesday, April 8. Rishabh Pant went upstairs twice in the same over against the KKR.
Pant has taken two DRS in the third over, and interestingly, on successive balls, against Quinton de Kock off Akash Deep’s bowling, and ended up burning a review. After making the blunder on the second ball of the third over, the Lucknow Super Giants captain made it current on the very next ball.
Rishabh Pant make amends with a spot-on DRS call after the initial blunder
Akash Deep has provided a crucial breakthrough to the LSG, as the pacer trapped Quinton de Kock leg-before wicket, sending him back to the pavilion for 15 off 9 balls. As Akash was confident about his wicket, Pant decided to go upstairs again after a failed review on the previous ball.
De Kock was looking to swing across the line but missed it completely as the ball skidded off the pitch, sneaked past the inside edge, and struck him on the back leg right in front of the stumps. The ball had pitched in line, beaten the inside edge, and bumped into the pad.
Ball-tracking confirmed all three reds, as HawkEye showed it to be hitting middle and off, and De Kock had to walk back to the dugout.

Rishabh Pant burns review against Quinton De Kock
In the previous ball, Akash Deep bowled a sharp delivery, clocking in at 139.4 kph. The ball pitched just fuller than a good length and moved away off the surface. De Kock stood leg-side and looked to drive, but the ball appeared to zip past the outside edge.

Surprisingly, Rishabh Pant heard something and decided to take DRS despite there being no real appeal from Akash. Later, the ball-tracking and replays confirmed that there was no contact with the bat, and LSG ended up wasting a review. It was a big blunder from Pant, especially with the ball brushing close to the off-stump but not enough to convince the bowler for the appeal.
Now, KKR still needs 77 runs in 41 balls to beat LSG in their home game on Tuesday. LSG has picked most wickets in the powerplay so far in the ongoing IPL 2025 season, but their bowlers are not looking great against the defending champions at the Eden Garden.
Injury concern for LSG captain Rishabh Pant
Meanwhile, after the 12th over, the play was halted for a few minutes, as Pant received medical treatment for a back issue. The LSG skipper looked in discomfort, but he’s decided to stay on the field as KKR fought back strongly while chasing 239 runs to win the game.
Pant, who amassed 446 runs at an average of 40.55 and a strike rate of 155.40 with just one single-digit score last season with Delhi Capitals, has scored only 19 runs at a strike rate of 59.37 in three outings for Lucknow so far in the ongoing IPL 2025. He has not even batted against KKR.
