Team India keeper-batter Rishabh Pant attempted an outrageous reverse lap shot during the ongoing first Test match against New Zealand. However, Rishabh Pant failed to send the ball toward the boundary during India's first innings at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Thursday, October 17.
Indian skipper Rohit Sharma opted to bat first after winning despite knowing the conditions would favor fast bowlers. The visiting team made the most of the conditions and picked up three wickets inside the first hour of play. Rishabh Pant came to the crease when the team was struggling at 10/3 inside 10 overs.

The incident took place on the fifth delivery of the 12th over in India's first innings. Matt Henry bowled a length delivery on off-stump, and Rishabh Pant played a ramp shot. However, Pant failed to middle the shot as it hit his gloves and lobbed towards the leg-slip area, where no fielder was present.

Veteran Tim Southee dismissed Rohit Sharma for just two runs to provide an early breakthrough for the visiting team. William O'Rourke and Matt Henry removed Virat Kohli and Sarfaraz Khan for ducks, respectively. India was at 13/3 after 12.4 overs before the rain interrupted play on Day 2.
A Lot Can Happen Over The Four Days - Rohit Sharma
After winning the toss, Rohit Sharma stated that the pitch may be a bit sticky at the start. He added that they need to focus on scoring runs early to set a positive tone. Rohit expressed confidence in the team's recent performance and noted that they want to start the new series strongly.
"We will bat first. It's been under the covers. So, we understand that it's going to be sticky. But as the game progresses, we know the nature of this pitch. We want to put runs on the board," Rohit said.
"It's a tricky one. You lose an entire day and you have four days to play. A lot can happen over the four days. You want to have the result. We will look how we stand in different junctures and assess the conditions," he added.
The Rohit Sharma-led Side Coming Into This Series On Back Of 2-0 Win
The Rohit Sharma-led team came into this series after a 2-0 victory against Bangladesh. On the other hand, New Zealand recently suffered a 2-0 loss to Sri Lanka, which led to Tim Southee resigning as captain. Tom Latham is currently leading the New Zealand side in the three-match Test series in India.
India and New Zealand last faced each other in a two-match Test series during the 2021-22 season, where the Men in Blue won 1-0. New Zealand has struggled in India, having never won a Test series there in 12 attempts. Their last Test match victory in India dates back to 1988 at Wankhede Stadium.
