Rishabh Pant gets injured

On the fourth ball of the 68th over, English pacer Chris Woakes bowled a full and slower ball to Rishabh Pant, who went for a premeditated reverse sweep and was hit flush on the boot.

There was a big appeal for LBW, but the umpire gave it not out, and England went for the review. As the decision went upstairs, Rishabh Pant looked in immense pain after getting hit on the foot. The Ultra-edge showed that the ball had under-edged the bat, and Pant survived.

Meanwhile, the drinks were called as Pant received medical attention for a foot injury. There was a swelling on his right foot, some blood as well, and he was seen screaming in pain.

Pant was unable to stand properly and was unable to continue. He was retired hurt, and a buggy was brought in the middle to carry him off as the wicketkeeper-batsman looked in a lot of pain.

Pant got retired hurt after scoring 37 runs off 48 balls with two fours and one six. Soon after his dismissal, India also lost the young batter Sai Sudharsan for 61 runs.

He's hobbling around - Sir Alastair Cook

Speaking on BBC Test Match Special, legendary England National Cricket Team batsman Alastair Cook talked about the development unfolding in the middle involving Pant. He said:

"I think the ball might've gone on to hit off stump. What it has done is hit Rishabh Pant right on the front of his foot, he's hobbling around."

Meanwhile, speaking on Sky Sports, the former India National Cricket Team head coach Ravi Shastri said that the hosts can crack the game open in the last hour of the day. He said:

"This could be a big last hour of the day. With the Pant injury – which looks pretty serious – England will think they have the opportunity to crack the game open. With Pant not there, Stokes feels he can control the pace of the game."

Notably, this is the second major injury that Rishabh Pant has suffered, as earlier in the Lord's Test, he injured his finger while keeping the wickets.

Pant got injured during the first innings when Jasprit Bumrah bowled a full-length delivery to Ollie Pope angling down the leg side.

Pope looked to flick it away but missed completely his shot, and the ball went on to hit Rishabh Pant on the index finger of his left hand, leaving him injured.

He was replaced by Dhruv Jurel as the substitute wicketkeeper for the remainder of the match and was doubtful for the Manchester Test, but eventually achieved full match fitness.
