India's wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant was controversially dismissed during the second innings of the third Test between India and New Zealand in Mumbai. It was a big moment in the game as Pant was fighting a lone battle for India.
During the 22nd over of India's second innings, Rishabh Pant came down the wicket to Ajaz Patel but was not close enough to the pitch of the ball. The ball went past his inside edge and clipped his pad before lobbing up in the air.
Wicketkeeper Tom Blundell completed an easy catch as New Zealand let out a huge appeal. The umpire, however, did not give it out. Looking at the magnitude of the wicket, Tom Latham decided to use his last review. There was some movement in the Ultra edge as the ball went past the bat but it wasn't clear whether it was the bat hitting the ball or the bat hitting the pad.
In the end, the third umpire Paul Reiffel gave the decision in favor of the fielding team and asked the on-field umpire Richard Illingworth to reverse his decision. Rishabh Pant was absolutely distraught as he dragged himself slowly to the pavilion.

Pant seemed to be suggesting to the umpire that his bat had not hit the ball and it was the pad which hit the bat. However, the third umpire had other ideas and ruled the star wicketkeeper-batter out.
Mumbai crowd furious after Rishabh Pant's dismissal
The Mumbai crowd was furious seeing things unfold and they erupted with 'cheater cheater' chants. The chats erupted across the stadium as a dejected Rishabh Pant walked back to the dressing room.
Pant was dismissed for a well-made 64 off just 57 balls. The left-handed batter struck 9 fours and 1 six during his knock. He was the only Indian batter who looked comfortable at the crease and dominated the New Zealand's bowlers.
But his innings was short-lived by an unfortunate dismissal. Pant's wicket opened the floodgates for New Zealand for an emphatic win. Over the years, Rishabh Pant has carried India's hopes in Test cricket.
The wicketkeeper-batter has been by far India's best batter across conditions in Test cricket and once again proved how dangerous he can be in this format. He will be crucial for India in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy as he already has a good record in Australia.
New Zealand spinners wrap up things quickly
Pant was the seventh wicket to fall in the innings. New Zealand sensed the opportunity to rush through India's lower order. India's tail could not survive for long as they were bowled out for just 121 runs.
New Zealand won the match by 25 runs and completed a series whitewash of 3-0 over the hosts. Ajaz Patel finished with 6-57 in the second innings.
