In a cricketing world where playing safe is often touted as the golden rule by many, Rishabh Pant has once again shattered tradition with his unapologetic brand of aggressive cricket.

The Indian wicketkeeper-batter, who is known for his high-risk, high-reward approach, has been a frequent subject of debate and criticism among former cricketers and analysts for his style.

Rishabh Pant trolls England for copying his aggressive style in Tests

His latest encounter with popular content creator Tanmay Bhat provided a refreshing twist to the ongoing discussion about playing it safe in Test cricket. When Bhat posed the question about why Rishabh Pant doesn’t follow a more conservative style of play, the Indian star responded with his characteristic flair regarding his fearless approach.

The left-handed batter has pointed out the irony of how his own aggressive tactics were once questioned, only to be embraced now in the form of England's 'Bazball' approach. He has not only highlighted his wit with his response but also shed light on the shifting dynamics of modern cricket.

His style, which was once considered too risky, has now become the trend among the batters across the formats. Rishabh Pant made the most of the opportunity and took a dig at England batter Ben Duckett for taking credit for Indian batters’ aggressive brand of play earlier this year.

On being asked whether he knows how to play it safe, Rishabh Pant said on Tanmay Bhat’s YouTube channel: “Abhi Bazball dekh rahe ho toh maza aa rha hai. Jab mein pehle kar rha tha toh acha nai lag rha tha kya? (When you see Bazball, you enjoy it, but when I did it before, did you not like it or what?)”

Amidst England’s bold and controversial 'Bazball' strategy, which has stirred discussions about its effectiveness and the future of aggressive Test cricket, Pant was firm to follow his style. During England’s recent Test tour of India, Duckett’s comments about the English team’s influence on how teams like India approach Test cricket added fuel to the fire.

Ben Duckett gets the teste of his own medicine

Duckett suggested that England’s daring playstyle had prompted Indian batters to rethink their approach. However, the success of 'Bazball' remains a topic of intense debate. Despite England's success, they faced challenges in maintaining their aggressive stance in Test cricket.

Duckett had said during England’s Test tour of India earlier this year: “When you see players from the opposition playing like that, it almost feels like we should take some credit that they’re playing differently than how other people play Test cricket.”

Notably, Rishabh Pant is all set to make a comeback in whites when India hosts Bangladesh in a two-match Test series. The first Test will be played in Chennai from September 19, and Rishabh Pant was named in India’s squad for the opening game of the Bangladesh Test series.

The second and final Test is scheduled to be played in Kanpur from September 27. Pant recently played in the ongoing Duleep Trophy 2024 and is expected to play his first Test in Chennai since his last appearance in Tests against Bangladesh in December 2022.
