Team India captain Shubman Gill's exchange with vice-captain Rishabh Pant during Day 1 of the second Test against England grabbed attention on social media. The wicketkeeper-batter was seen advising Gill while running between the wickets during a partnership on the opening day of the match.
Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant added a crucial 47-run stand for the fourth wicket on Wednesday, July 2. Gill, leading the side, played a calm and composed knock under pressure. The right-handed batter reached his second century of the series and scored an unbeaten 114 at stumps in Birmingham.

Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant were caught on the stump mic discussing running between the wickets. Pant pointed out that the ball had softened, making it harder to judge quick singles. He warned Gill against deciding to run too early and advised him to respond to the call.
The stump mic captured Pant saying, "Dekh lenge call pe. Pehle hi mat decide kar kuch bhi. Call rakhenge ek." (It depends on the call. Don't preempt anything. Stick to one call.)

Gill seemed to agree with Pant’s observation that the ball had softened. Pant and Gill’s partnership came to an end in the 61st over when off-spinner Shoaib Bashir picked up the wicket. The left-hander scored 25 off 42 deliveries before mistiming a shot to Zak Crawley at long-on.
Shubman Gill Hits Slowest Test Century of His Career
Shubman Gill, under scrutiny for resting star pacer Jasprit Bumrah in the second Test against England, responded with a dogged knock. Gill showcased solid technique and measured aggression against the England bowling attack.
He reached his seventh Test century off 199 balls, his slowest to date. By stumps, he remained unbeaten on 114, with Ravindra Jadeja contributing 41*. The pair took India to 310/5 but will have to avoid a repeat of the lower-order collapse seen in the first Test.
As of July 2, Gill has scored 2,162 runs in 34 Test matches at an average of 38.60, with seven hundreds and seven fifties to his name.
Rishabh Pant and Shubman Gill's Centuries Went in Vain in 1st Test
Rishabh Pant and Shubman Gill produced outstanding batting performances in the opening Test against England at Headingley, Leeds. Pant made history by becoming the first Indian wicketkeeper to score centuries in both innings of a Test match.
Shubman Gill, captaining the side for the first time in Tests, scored 147 in the first innings. However, India couldn’t secure a victory. England chased down a daunting target of 371 in the fourth innings, pulling off the tenth-highest successful run chase in Test history.
India will be keen to bounce back during the second Test at Edgbaston. However, the team has never won a Test at the venue, with seven losses and a single draw to date.
