India National Cricket Team Test vice-captain Rishabh Pant came up with an interesting reaction when he was questioned about becoming a senior player in the team after the retirement of the likes of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.
Rishabh Pant will be the most experienced batter for Team India after KL Rahul in the upcoming five-match Test series against England National Cricket Team, which will commence on June 20.
It feels good, boss. Finally - Rishabh Pant
The untimely retirements of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli mean that India will be light on experience in the Test series against the Three Lions.
Among the players in the current squad, all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja is India's highest run-scorer in Test matches in England, which shows how inexperienced the Indian batting order is.
Other than Jadeja, only two players from the current squad - KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant - have breached the 500-run mark in Test matches in England.
The 27-year-old Pant has featured in 9 Test matches in England, and he has scored 556 runs at an average of 32.70, with two tons and two fifties.
With the additional burden of vice-captaincy on his shoulders, Rishabh Pant will have to ensure that he lives up to the expectations in the upcoming series and returns with consistent scores by using his experience. Meanwhile, when he was asked about wearing the senior player tag, he gave a hilarious reaction.
"It feels good, boss. Finally (smiles)," Pant said at the press conference when asked how it felt to be called a senior batter.

It feels good but at the same time, you know it's a responsibility - Rishabh Pant
Pant added that the senior player tag adds extra responsibility on his shoulders to share his experience with the youngsters coming into the team, but he emphasized not focusing on it too much. He said:
"It feels good but at the same time, you know it's a responsibility also to share your knowledge, your experience with our new players, new youngsters coming to the team. But at the same time, not focusing on that senior part too much, you still have to play the game, you still have to learn the game as an individual and keep helping people around you. That's how I look at it."
Pant further said his new role in the Test team would not affect his batting because he focuses only on batting when he is in the middle without thinking about his seniority. He stated:
"See it's extracted responsibility, but at the same time when you are in the middle of the ground, you are not thinking, 'Oh, I'm the vice-captain. I'm the senior player.' You're just a batsman in the middle. You've got to do the best you can from your side, and eventually the game will take care of itself."
