KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant shine for India

Rahul and Pant have been the star performers for the team in the ongoing match against the Ben Stokes-led side.

The batters are two of the most experienced in the Indian Test team following the retirements of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, and they have taken the responsibility very well.

In the first innings, KL Rahul batted brilliantly and built a solid opening stand with Yashasvi Jaiswal, but he was unable to convert his start into a big score and fell for 42 off 78 balls.

However, Rishabh Pant made the most of the start he got and converted it into a big innings. He scored 134 runs off 178 balls, with 12 fours and 6 sixes.

In the second innings as well, the duo showcased a batting masterclass, and they were constantly chatting with each other in the middle. One of their conversations during the 33rd over, when Brydon Carse was bowling, was caught on the stump mic, and it quickly went viral on social media.

Rahul was seen advising his batting partner to watch the ball carefully before playing his shots, and in reply, Pant rudely yet hilariously said that he always watches the ball well.

Here is how the conversation unfolded between the Indian batters:

KL Rahul: Ball achhe se dekho (Watch the ball carefully.)

Rishabh Pant: Haanji aisa nhi hai na ki... ghuma du, ball achhe se dekhta hun (Yes, it's not like that, I'll just swing like this, I watch the ball well.)

There's a lot of responsibility on KL Rahul, and he's carrying it superbly - Sanjay Manjrekar

Recently, Sanjay Manjrekar lavished high praise on Rahul for playing a near-perfect knock in India's second innings against the Three Lions. He also lauded debutant Sai Sudharsan for a significantly better performance in the second innings after a duck in his first outing in Test cricket.

“We've seen KL Rahul play many good innings over the years, but I have to say - that knock was very close to perfection. Honestly, he didn't put a foot wrong," he said on JioHotstar on Day 3.

"There were a couple of cover drives in particular that were absolute 10 out of 10 - even the harshest of critics would struggle to find a flaw. It was perfection in motion. There's a lot of responsibility on KL Rahul, and he's carrying it superbly. Touch wood, he's looking in excellent rhythm."

"As for Sai Sudharsan, it was good to see him get some runs under his belt. He'll be disappointed not to kick-on because, as a batter, once you cross 30, you feel like you've assessed the attack and done the hard work. But that's where he's unique - very old-school in his approach. He plays the ball late, very still at the crease, no exaggerated trigger movement - just classic technique. That short-arm jab, the cover drive, even the straight drive… textbook stuff," he added.
