Indian captain Rohit Sharma and New Zealand all-rounder Daryl Mitchell were involved in a heated exchange before lunch on Day 1 of the ongoing third and final Test at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Daryl Mitchell was not happy with the chatter among the Indian players during the proceedings. The incident took place on the fourth ball of the 26th over when India tightened the field by bringing in an extra infielder to ramp up the pressure on Mitchell.

Adding to the intensity, chatter from behind the stumps, whether it be Rishabh Pant, Rohit Sharma, or Sarfaraz under the helmet, disturbed the New Zealander at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

They were visibly getting under Mitchell's skin. Ravindra Jadeja bowled a full delivery just outside off stump, the ball turning away slightly as Mitchell played a solid defensive stroke for no run. The tension kept building as India continued to trouble him with their fielding and vocal game.

Actually, tension was escalating on the field as Sarfaraz Khan was putting up the pressure by constantly talking with the Indian wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant as Daryl Mitchell took the strike. Mitchell was clearly feeling the heat, even going so far as to voice his frustrations to the square leg umpire about the distracting behavior from the Indian camp.

However, in a bid to diffuse the situation, the Indian captain Rohit Sharma approached Daryl Mitchell for a chat, but it turned into a heated debate. It was evident that both Rohit Sharma and Mitchell were having some intense discussion regarding the incident.

And it was quite visible that this verbal sparring was not going to stop from the Rohit Sharma-led Indian cricket team, given the captain’s body language.

Watch here how things unfolded at Wankhede Stadium:

Meanwhile, the Indian cricket team managed to gain a slight upper hand in the first session by claiming three crucial wickets against New Zealand in the ongoing final Test match at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The action kicked off with Akash Deep making an early impact, sending Devon Conway packing with a vertical LBW decision for just 4 runs off 11 balls.

Washington Sundar's double strike sends New Zealand tumbling

However, Tom Latham and Will Young steadied the ship for New Zealand by providing some much-needed resistance with a solid partnership of 44 runs. Yet, the turning point came with the introduction of spin all-rounder Washington Sundar, who continued his impressive form from Pune.

With two outstanding deliveries, Washington Sundar dismantled Tom Latham (28) and Rachin Ravindra (5), sending the Kiwis tumbling from a comfortable 59/1 to a precarious 72/3. Well, Young has shown skill, particularly with his sweeping technique to combat the spin threat and notched up his fifty, but Mitchell has appeared unsettled at the crease.

Currently, New Zealand’s score reads 113/3 after 31 overs against India. Notably, New Zealand have already clinched the historic Test series on Indian soil, and they are certainly looking for a whitewash, but the Indian team is playing for the pride, and they will give all to win the Wankhede Test.
