India and Bangladesh are currently going head-to-head in the opening game of the two-match Test series at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

With the first Test going underway on Thursday, September, the Indian cricket team dealt with a huge blow in the sixth over in Chennai.

Indian captain Rohit Sharma had a forgettable start to the busy home Test season as the young Bangladesh pacer Hasan Mahmud got the better of the senior opener in the first ball of the sixth over. Mahmud dismissed Rohit with a well-placed delivery for just 6 runs off 19 balls.

The Bangladesh pacer delivered the ball at 131.9 kph and landed on a good length just outside off-stump, slightly moving away. This subtle movement unsettled the Indian captain, causing an edge off his soft-handed defense.

The ball traveled straight to the second slip, where Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto cleanly completed the catch to ensure Rohit’s departure.

Rohit was sent back to the pavilion after scoring six runs from 19 balls, including one boundary. He was seen disappointed after giving away his wicket to Mahmud.

In his last Test appearance, the right-handed batter smoked a century against England in Dharmashala, and even he was in good form in the white-ball cricket, but he failed to continue his form against the Tigers’ bowling attack.

Well, Hasan Mahmud is turning out to be a nightmare for the Indian batters, as the Bangladesh pacer has already bagged key wickets of Rohit, Shubman Gill, and Virat Kohli, and he could not have asked for a great start to the Test series in India.

He proved too costly for India, as the hosts found themselves in the precarious position of 34/3 inside 10 overs in Chennai. Now, the two youngsters, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rishabh Pant, are one the crease, with India hoping the young blood gets them back on track after early setbacks against Bangladesh.

India's current score reads 40/3 in 12 overs against Bangladesh. Notably, Rohit had already said that the Chennai pitch is going to test the players in the match.

It's going to be challenging conditions: Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma said at the toss, “Little soft, the pitch. It's going to be challenging conditions. We have prepared well, so we should back our potential and play the way we know. Looking at the 10 Test matches, every match is important.

But we want to focus on what lies in front of us. We came here a week ago; we had a good prep leading up to this one. We feel confident. Three seamers and two spinners—Bumrah, Akash Deep, Siraj, Ashwin, and Jadeja.”

Notably, Bangladesh have yet to win a game against India in Test cricket. The two teams have faced each other in 13 matches, with India claiming victory in 11, while the remaining two ended in draws.
