Angelo Mathews - A certified legend
A few weeks back, the Sri Lankan all-rounder Mathews announced his retirement from Test cricket. He will finish his career at Galle International Stadium - the same venue where he made his debut - with 119 Test matches.
Talking about his numbers in 118 Test matches, he scored 8167 runs at an average of 44.62 and picked up 33 wickets with the ball. He also smashed 16 centuries and 45 half-centuries in his legendary career.
The best of Angelo Mathews, the Test cricketer, came in the year 2014, in which he scored 1160 Test runs at an exceptional average of 77.33, with two tons and eight fifties.
In one of the games against the Three Lions at Headingley, he played one of the finest knocks of his career, scoring 160 runs to help Sri Lanka win their first Test series in England.
Also, Mathews is the only batter in the world to be dismissed on both 99 and 199 in Tests, and he is among the very few cricketers with 5000 runs and 50 fielding dismissals in the longest format of the game.
